How is this a sequel to Blame?

To restate the topic title, how is this a sequel to Blame? When the story starts it seems like they are on something much more like current day earth compared to the world of Blame. I have trouble imagining this happening AFTER Blame in any way, it seems totally unrelated to me. Am I missing something?

Huh. I was under the impression it was a prequal to blame. That made a bit more sense to me. But i guess not.

Yeah I agree it would make more sense to be a prequel but for some reason it is labeled as a sequel to Blame on this site.
"Blame Academy! (Spin-Off)
Blame! (Prequel)
BLAME! NSE (Sequel)
Blame!² (Sequel)
NOiSE (Prequel)"
so according to this site noise > blame > Biomega > Blame NSE and Blame2
honestly though that makes no sense to me. also if it is indeed a prequel like noise, does it happen after or before noise? Personally I kinda think biomega is just totally unrelated though.

It's not, Nihei has stated in an interview that his works are more like the final fantasy series, they share some of the characters, locations, name, etc... but they don't belong in the same timeline, the only true sequel to BLAME! is BLAME!2.

Shouldn't someone change it on the site then? it is rather misleading. would anyone have a heart attack if I edited it out?
edit: whatever I removed it. for it to be prequel or sequel to all that stuff is like saying that chrono trigger is a sequel/prequel to the FF games so yeah.

Maybe its more like saying Prometheus is the prequel to Alien.
Taken from wiki and tvtropes :
Biomega contains references to Blame!, Nihei's previous work. This is a standalone storyline and does not have direct connections to his other works such as Blame!, NSE and NOiSE (though, throughout Blame!, TOA Heavy Industries is mentioned several times).
Alternate Universe: This seems to be the case with Biomega, it features a lot of similarities with all of other Tsutomu's works but the stories can't possibly take place in the same universes. Biomega and BLAME! both feature Artificial Humans who are quite similar to one another but the stories don't connect. Plus several brands appear in the different stories with Toha Heavy Industries appearing in all of them as a benevolent Mega Corp.. They are the one's who created the good kind of Artificial Humans in all of the story lines. Then again BLAME! revealed that Toha posess the ability to travel whole buildings through space and time, so...
Stealth Prequel: While it doesn't take place in the same continuity as Blame!, Toha may be the same entity in both manga through interdimensional travel, which would make it a prequel from Toha's perspective.
