I'm having a huge father/son craving.
I want something bittersweet/angsty (is that a word?) manga but heartwarming and maybe even a little funny at times.

I got hooked on http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=873
Shounen Shinkaron. I loved how the dad was mean, selfish, and acts like he didn't like his son when he does. I loved how the son is really sweet and wants his father to love him. Oh and i loved the tears, it was cute <3
I didn't like how boyish the dad looked. Cute as it was, i like it when dad's look a bit more manish than the son, and taller...than the son

Something along the lines of that...perferably...
I didn't like Kodomo no Taion.

I hope i wasn't too picky =A=U

Boku Wa Ne, I guess? Really cute manga - both about a biological father-son relationship AND an adoptive (pseudo-adoptive?) one.

The only other father-son manga I can think of is Lone Wolf and Cub, but that's more heavy duty and angsty than what you're looking for, I think.

Ah, thank you :3
I do like Boku wa ne, i had my doubts about it but now i like it
Lone wolf and cub, i was hoping for the art to be well...cute but i'll check it out, i don't judge, in this case, mangas just by their art.
It's really sad there aren't many non-incestous father and son anime/mangas....TT^TT

Yeah, I agree, it's weird that there are not more father-son mangas... There are lots more father-daughter ones. I wonder why...? 😕

LW&C really is a very macho manga with tragedy in it, so I don't know if you'll like it, but I appreciate your attitude of wanting to give things a try before judging! That's really cool. 🙂

It's more humor but try out Aoi Destruction!.

Hanaotoko - You have to ignore the art and just read the story- it really is very nice. Anyone who skips this because of the unusual (and not-so-beautiful) artwork is missing out big time!

Working Holiday - Seems pretty cute, though only one chapter has been scanned so far.

As for why there are so few father-son stories...I guess it's because of the weird (and imo, rather unrealistic) theory that fathers only love daughters while mothers prefer sons? I don't know where people got that stupid idea from - both me and my sister are closer to our mother than to our father 🙂

I think Tsuki to Mizu no Yoru has a little bit of father-son bonding. I'm not positive, though.

Not really. The father-son relationship receives very little attention - maybe about 10 pages or so in the whole of 2 volumes. The story mainly focuses on the friendship between the son and a couple of water-spirits whom he meets at his grandparents' place.

Wow, I never thought I'd get this many replies. I mean, the maximum amount I thougth would be was 3.

LW&C really is a very macho manga with tragedy

I...could not find it, I typed it in and there was 25-27 pages =A=
I am very lazy with low patience, especially when it comes to somethin specific. TT^TT

It's more humor but try out Aoi Destruction!.

I don't want to be rude but how...sigh...how was Aoi Destruction a father and son manga? None of those one-shots were even related to what I asked for. sighs again

Working Holiday - Seems pretty cute, though only one chapter has been scanned so far.

I love Working Holiday. It's really sad that there are only 2 chapters so far, I hope another chapter this month.
I'll take your word on Hanaotoko, if I let go everything that wasn't too pleasing to MY eyes, Tekkon Kinkreet would have never been my favorite movie X

I think that theory is very lame =A=
I love yaoi/shounen ai and all, but sometimes I just want some fluff between a father and son or between two brothers.

Thank you everyone for your recommendations, I appreciate it :3

Um... Not the original poster, but if you've read the description for Aoi Destruction a little more carefully, you'd see that the FIRST several oneshots focus on the father and son story. And the rest of the oneshots afterwards (as shown in the descriptions) are other stories...

I think you're misunderstanding something. 'LW&C' is a shortened form of the title Lone Wolf and Cub, which is the the name the English publishers used for Kozure Ookami 🙂

Oh well! That's nothing new.

But...the only father/son oneshot I see is #2, but I don't really understand how that plays a major role in the oneshot, then again, I'm pretty sure I'm not seeing the whole thing thoroughly so I will read it. (Oh I hope that made sense ^-^U)
