So, yes. What I want are some manga with beautiful and very talented female leads. The vast majority of manga that have female main characters describe them as anywhere between average and ugly, as well as absolutely useless in all pursuits. So, what I want are those characters that are the opposite of the norm.

I have a very loose definition of talented. It can be anywhere from talent at singing, to being a very intelligent individual, just something that puts them above the norm.

So, some manga that I've already read/am reading that fit are:

Chihaya Furu. This one is my current favorite by the way.
Monkey High. This one is a sorta-kinda fit. She's not brilliantly intelligent, but she isn't dumb either.
Orange Marmalade. Not exactly talented, but she is very... unique.
Ciel.

Okay, so hopefully those can help guide your suggestions.

Additionally, I don't mind if the main characters aren't necessarily beautiful; I'll also accept manga of talented female leads where the physical attractiveness of characters plays essentially no role. So no "Oh, what a pretty girl" moments when the main character meets one of the side characters. Times like these imply that the MC is rather average.

Lastly, romance is a huge plus, but not required. I'm just tired of ho-hum female leads.

And that's it. Thanks in advance.

Akagami no Shirayukihime one of my favorites
Adventure and Trouble Diary she is very beautiful and you see her talents in later volumes
Absolute Witch she is a very powerful character, and beautiful too, but childish at times

These look great, and I especially love fantasy works, so thanks twice over.

As a future note, bonus points if the MC is just plain odd. I love quirky characters.

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha might fit most of your requirements. Not all, but most - fantasy, comedy, partly romance (?), a quirky female - demon lead, who is extremely intelligent, scheming, practical, and paradoxically stupid in some ways... and accompanied by a typical male Shonen co-lead.

The plus about the male is even though he's overpowered, the story does go in a way that doesn't revolve around him - rather a surprise, because when one sees Shonen and powered male leads, the story usually follows the guy, but not this time. It's actually a surprise refresher, a manga neither Shonen nor Shojoesque. Worth a try, if you ask me.

You know, I've had my eye on this one for a while, but wasn't sure which version I should go with... is there any rendition that's a lot better than the others?

That link leads to the main manga, the rest are all adaptations and spin-offs.

They're all essentially the same story told in rather different ways...read the original before trying the rest. You won't miss much if you skip the spin-offs either. And I put it off for a long while, unfortunately.

It's more amazing than I thought, to be honest. Especially since I love Spice and Wolf and this seems similar to that, although in a rather different way...

EDIT: By the way, I haven't read a whole lot of Manga, so I wouldn't know, but let's just say she isn't a typical female-in-Shonen-manga. I find they tend to be Its-not-like-I-love-him-or-anything-Tsunderes, Violent-but-adorable, Yanderes or whatever. Airhead? Partly. Absolute ditz and klutz? No.

Just to be sure, if you didn't know, here is the list for beautiful female leads and for talented female leads.

And among these, I'd recommend Skip Beat! (that I've been following for years, now, it's very slow, though) and Nodame Cantabile, for the talent part.

Akuma to love song has a female lead with a very interesting character.

And also Blood+ (I only watched the Anime) has an awesome female lead <3 and a surrealistic setting. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Edit : Ok, here you've got smart female leads and strong female leads as well. Some might have your interest among those.
Barairo My Honey and Akagami no Shirayukihime are great.
Oresama Teacher, Gokusen, Seirei no Moribito and Tokyo Crazy Paradise are all about female fighters, if it counts as a "talent". They are all very different, though, but all equally epic. 😁

Well, first I'll point out that I'm perfectly aware of how the search function works on MU. The problem is, I've found that a lot of the time the "Beautiful Female Lead" tag isn't added where applicable. That, and the broad pool of types of talented characters that I'm trying to draw from would lead to a massive combination of possible searches, and even then wouldn't provide all possible manga. I'm asking in the forum in order to fill in the gaps, as it were.

That said, I appreciate the recommendations. I'm not sure how many really fit, but I'll take a look at them.

Oh, and about Akuma to Love Song... I agree, I rather love the lead.

Yes, yes, that's a perfectly valid argument ! I never questioned your reasons for asking in the forums, I do the same. I was just making sure. Sorry if that came out as if I was criticizing something. 🙂

Regarding my recommendations, I'd say they fit at least in the aspect that the female main characters have stong personalities and stand up for themselves. But, it's true they differ quite a bit from the examples you gave...
Oh, and a lot of Yuki Kaori's heroines have talent or strong personalities (and they're always beautiful.) Fairy Cube might fit, for instance.

That's the best recommendation(s) I've received yet. Thanks a bunch. I also hope I didn't come across as being rude, it wasn't my intention.

A lot of those are ones I've been looking at for a while but wasn't sure about... guess it's time to give them a try, right?
