One of my fave yaois ever! Yaoi can be directed at any demographic. And some yaois are to sexualize women, and I definitely think that OGN counts as one of those. But I love it when guys are mangakas! Especially male shojo and yaoi authors. They offer a fresh look on things. 🙂

I suppose that explains why Ayase is so effeminate

I wasn't so surprised they were men. I mean, gay manga, gay men...? If might be geared towards women but I'm PRETTY sure gay guys read it too. So why not make it too? But yaoi and shota aimed at straight men? How does that even work?

Well first of all, the "Yaoi" you're talking about is Trap hentai, and yes, it's aimed at the male audience, though there's a huge difference between the yaoi aimed at women and yaoi aimed at men, first of all, the one aimed at women is MUCH LESS sexual, because...well obviously the readers are female so yeah, and the one aimed at the male audience is basically hentai, you grab a lolita, you give her a penis and you got a trap hentai (Or what do you call male-oriented shota). second of all, if the female oriented yaoi had a sex scene, it's usually very brief, 2 pages at the most, while the male-oriented yaoi, just like any other hentai, is at least 12 pages long. third, female oriented shota is rare, that's obvious. while male oriented shota is just uncommon, there are alot of other differences but i stated what i know.

i'm sorry, but where did you hear that? Yaoi is generally aimed at the Fujoshi audience, a normal otaku girl would be plainly disgusted, and even more so a guy. also i've never heard of anything like " some yaois are to sexualize women", it's true that smutty yaoi's exist, but it's not exactly for that purpose.

I don't think gay guys read yaoi, well, at least as far as japan goes, i mean they do have very low gay population (even though gay population was always very low and will always be ;p), there's bara for gay men but it's very limited in terms of both audience and the manga itself.

I don't see why every single readers to this manga always comments on Ayase being feminine looking..I've seen and read some manga drawings that has a MALE uke that looks too much like a girl/female and they just turn me off..Kinda disgusted by it..I mean, if I wanted a F/M relationship, then I wouldn't be reading YAOI/SLASH, would I...So, Ayase to me, just doesn't look female at all..He's delicate and beautiful but not girly..I just don't see it and you guys can't be all bias/stereotypical about him and his appearance due to his tiny size...

As for the writers being male..SO WHAT!! What does gender really have to do with anything. NO-ONE knows what an individual believes in or how he/she is in their life experience, so, for ALL of you to just comment about one thing or another is just plain stupid...

Hi! Although this comes several years late, both the writer of the original novel, Hitoyo Shinozaki, and the mangaka, Tohru Kousaka, are BOTH WOMEN.

KISARAGI Hirotaka is male, and he has some awesome work!

I haven't read anything by SAKURA Haiji, but his art is cute!

MAYA Mineo does shounen-ai works, with one series over 100 volumes!

SUMIYOSHI Ryo is also male.

As well as KUJOU Aoi

And I just discovered KANBE Akira!

Not to consider the amount of artists who use pen names and may assume the opposite gender for their works.

Also, I personally had the chance to attend an autograph session of both of them back in 2009 in Tokyo, and can confirm they are both women, and are indeed very beautiful and sweet ladies. Shinozaki-sensei also goes in person to sell their doujinshi during Comiket and other events, and you can easily met here there too (I did that as well and she signed a DJ for me ♥. I can include pictures if you doubt me).But since you probably won't take my word for it, I included the information above.

I really don't understand this obsession with making these autors male just because they use male-sounding pennames. There ARE male BL mangaka out there, of course, but Shinozaki and Kousaka are NOT. And it's not a "moot point", this confusion does not exist in Japan. Please stop spreading the wrong info.
