The twisted and deeply disturbing tale of a sociopathic serial killer...
1 Volume (Complete)

The idea of this manga is pretty interesting, but I really don't think this manga does a good job of delving into the psyche of such a character well enough. Instead, it reads more like a much too short pastiche that does not give a story that emotionally or intellectually satisfies. As mentioned in subject, it has the wonderfully annoying narration that spends too much time introspecting on the narrator's weirdness, shallow contemplation of random aspects of society, sex and sexuality, and pubescent boys. It's got that flavour of ending too.
Also, just a guess, but the mangaka tends to churn out similar works to this one I admittedly don't care to find out whether my speculations are right in this regard.
The art is really great technique-wise and stylistically and the only worthwhile thing I got out of this, but not my cup of tea.
If you are someone that wants to read something about f**** up characters and cults, then this is the manga for you. Look no further because the main character has all the qualities of a psychopath, sociopath, and schizophrenic narcissist. You'll be sure to be left with a "WTF did I just read insert blank face??"
So pick this up if you want something completely different 🙂 !
It's perfect for the story that would otherwise get extremely graphic at points. You will know within the first couple pages if you can handle this manga. As a fan of disturbing things it did not bother me but, someone that isn't used to shock value will find this absolutely disgusting. Personally I think it's brilliant.
I started reading this because I was expecting something soft and fluffy like Death Note or something or probably because I liked Dexter. But once I started, it just captured me. I hated every page and it disgusted me so much that I could barely stand it. But it made me finish it. I spent months afterwards disturbed by it, and even more than a year later just thinking about it causes me feelings of disgust and fear. Out of all the things I've read, this has probably had one of the greatest impacts on my life.
The first and most eye-catching thing about this work is the art style, which is definitely noteworthy in its medium overall, perhaps a little reminiscent of certain Edward Gorey pen-and-ink pieces (for lack of knowledge of a better artist to compare it to). Unfortunately, not a lot is done with that, and many of the panels end up looking painfully similar to one another, rather rapidly straying from the initial imaginative flourishes. The larger problem is that everything about it is so agonizingly conventional. You more or less understand the course of the whole thing if you're at all familiar with how people typically write generic "troubled broody society-rejecting psychopath" characters. The protagonist is a virtual checklist of gloomy troubled romanticized killer loner cliches, and since no one actually behaves like a real human being, he's granted nigh invulnerability except when the script flatly declares he's not. The symbolism isn't used to convey anything but ham-fisted exhausted religious iconography (I was frankly stunned not to notice any apples or cruciform positions), and the whole thing is overall miles up its own gloomy backside with navel-gazing pretension. It doesn't even try to venture into any territory not covered by other works concerning youth, sexuality and violence (A Clockwork Orange, I'm waving at you fondly) and spends most of its time anointing its protagonist's feet instead. I'm not sure if my own biblical analogy is cleverly ironic or hypocritical, unfortunately.
That was disturbing but seriously impressive. Don't expect redemption or anything of the sort. There's no real story to speak of, either.
But it's an impressive portrayal of a psychopath, and the stylized drawing style definitely helps.
I read this manga because I thought it sounded interesting and that it wouldn't be so bad that I couldn't stomach it. What a surprise! I'm disturbed in so many levels and my stomach feels really queasy. The main character truly is twisted and what happened in his life is incredibly disturbing. If I were you, I'd think twice before reading this...
it's unlike any other manga i had ever read. this is more like a french comic, with the art style and the weird philosophical stuff he spouted. the main char is very disturbing, but you cant help think he is quite cool in his own way, especially when he offered to 'help' the bullied girl. the art certainly let you distance yourself from the atrocities he committed.
