By the point I got to meet a bit more of Raoh, the formulaic approach to upping the stakes with little to vary on conceptual prowess amongst the bad guys did little for me to care about Kenshiro as a man and as a concept.

God, punishment and destiny bonds are permanent themes of Hokuto no Ken (I mean, Toki is literally Jesus), to the point it diminishes its actual battleground: post-atomic bomb catasthrope. It tells you and shows you so, so little about the world around the martial arts it really could have been changed to oriental tournaments and it would have been remaining the same. It has the potential to construct an interesting point around that fact, but it does not. It chooses to stretch its manly ambition far and beyond.

Even from its optimistic point of view regarding bloodshed (as in it establishes light ahead of the tunnel, despite millions of lives lost by men-do, the role of a sentient godlike protector) it chooses to keep revailing in its mythos: the gazillion techniques and pressure points, the kung-fu-nastic uppercut storytelling, the world mispleasing women (but not actually going too far with it). Every loss I could not care less. You can certainly see the threads of what people expect from shonen.

Saddens me, because aesthetically Hokuto no Ken is pretty cool.

I like how brutal the fighting is, some big fights with main antagonists are pretty good and technical but i don't like thats the focus can switch back and forth to another fight, the story is alright, not that interesting, some villains aren't so memorable since they look rather similar.

It's looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong. And it doesn't even begin to describe it. The story is overstretched

after he kills Raoh, everything else is BS. Especially the end , tha arcs are long and the end is pathetic. The women are absolutely and utterly useless. Don't expect anything from any of them. The only likeable one is the little girl. The others are here to make sure Ken gets into fights. ! though she is used in the late volumes for the same purpose

He basically says the same thing from beginning to end : "my martial arts is the strongest so I'm gonna pound you. Badly."

But the fights are good, and I like how overpowerful Ken is. Though there seems to be lacking a level between "war god" and "useless punk who only scares poor and defenseless villagers". Well that's common in martial arts mangas, but it bothers me nonetheless. Also the drawings fit well to the action.

So I don't really recommend this manga, but I won't tell you not to read it. Just don't do it in one sitting, or even two or five. It would be a huge mistake.

About this manga, first of all is great art, straight story, lots of fight and blood. Though some don't like its ending, I actually think it's good. However, I don't like the kind of invincible protagonist whose power already strong at start. The way Ken won over his stronger opponents to me is silly. There is no really improvement from him, just because someone died so he pumped up. Within action genre, I automatically compare this manga to Berserk and JoJo, and fights in this manga are unfavoured, mostly brawl and new techniques and little room for brain. Story is kind of straight forward, there is a stronger opponent popped up after the strongest was defeated. There are some touching events but frankly, the rest are quite shallow. The story is filled with fate, star, blood line, god which are quite common for manga of the same author. As one of younger generation, I don't particularly like those stuffs. And they added more characters without thinking ahead made the story sometime awkward. But the ending is better than I expected. Over all this is good manga to read. Because of its story, even 27 volumes can be read carefully within a day.

This series was freaking amazing. I cannot believe I've missed out on it, I never read it because the art style deterred me from it. I was very prejudice against old art styles until recently. All in all, I was wow'd by Ken during every chapter. Of course there are things I wish occurred differently, but who cares it was still amazing. The last 2-3 volumes were a little off target, in my opinion...they were very random and it was anti-climatic ending; It seemed like fillers, which annoy and it could've been better. But the series was just too awesome to be judged by the last 3 volumes.

IF U DON"T LIKE THIS MANGA U ARE NOT A MAN (OR U DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE ONE)!!

But seriously the whole manga is just bursting at the seams with machismo and manliness. Ken is just like a manly mario or something.The hero who kills without remorse but goes out of his way to save the innocent and/or beautiful women and doesn't stop till he does or dies.

Sure the manga gets repetitive but i think thats the point: Ken will forever roam the ruins of earth and saving people and poking people and walking away and saying that they are already dead and get splattered by their blood as they explode from within.

Hokuto No Ken has been licensed into my native language and the manga volumes are available in some southeast Asian countries.

I first read this manga 8 years ago, it's practically my first 'seinen, Action' Violent-pack manga!! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THAT MANGA!!

The art was a bit difficult to get used to but as they say, "Dont judge a book by its cover"..!

The plot, the characters..the dsytopic world that the mangaka is potraying are so....thought-provoking. The cruelty and violence are...I cant really grab a handful of it...you really have to read it yourself! It's very good! Martial art themed mangas arent really my cup of tea but really, this manga is EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD.

If you're looking for a post-apocalyptic Dsytopic + Martial art + Shounen manga, then HOKUTO NO KEN definitely fits the criteria. If any of you are fond of "Soylent Green" or "the Man and the Dog", "Terminator" and other Fall-out post apocalypic movies, seriously, I HIGHLY Reckon you to read this cuz Ken's world is even more UNIMAGINABLY twisted than that!

Will ANYONE Ever finish the damn thing with outskipping volumes, Volume 04 to 08, i mean Honestly, i read everything in ORDER, how can i read it if it doesn't go in order it leaves 1 battle unfinished and starts one at the finish, and for troy, Guess no one truely Loves this Manga,

the worst ending ever!!!!!!! truly very idiotic finale. last 3 volumes are pure ****. i can't believe i took the bother of reading them. if you are a fan of this series stop where the anime ended. the manga ending ruined it all for me. my vote before reading it was 10. now i rate it 1.
