Granted the plot after the Cooking Festival Arc was obviously rushed especially when it came too

collecting Acacia's full course but we all know who to blame for that

Everything in this manga makes food seems so good and there are crazy powers to suit this crazy world.
Although it those rush at the end, it still a good meal to sit through

It's basically a tossed salad of Hunter x Hunter & Jojo's Bizarre Adventures/Fist of the North Star.

The series seems to be a parody of JUMP tropes.

Like Jonathan Joestar, Toriko has one of the worst zero-chemistry ass-pull marriages at the end of the series with a woman he met once & never saw again unil the last volume, which definitely pissed off all the fujoshis the series pulled in with the promise of a clam-free sausage fest full of male bonding & no romance. & for the bromance-blind target audience, it's still bad because the friendship dynamic changes between everyone.

As for Hunter x Hunter, this is what the series would have been like if it had focused on the two Gourmet Hunters in part 1.

The series could be pretty funny, but not to the degree of Onepunch Man or Gintama.

After the time skip, Komatsu gets an off-screen nose job that no one ever brings up, (Like how no one in Free Iwatobi Swim Club ever acknowledges Ren's filed teeth), & most of the side characters from part 1 are put on a bus & only show up as cameos. This is where I started losing interest in the series. I mean, they had their own goals & dreams, & their subplots were dropped & solved offscreen.

I never liked Komatsu. He was this unattractive little goblin with Gary Stu abilities, & the men flocked around him like he was the sexiest woman in town. He sure needed to be rescued an awful lot.

It really fell apart in the end.

Gluttony over appreciation for food or cuisine

I really hate the idea of great food in the manga comes 99.99999% from the "level" of the ingredients, rather than appreciation for the food or understanding of the food that you can make the best dishes out of it. The plot is rather predictable. The details are over the top, but not in a good way. The characters are one-dimensional, and you hardly see any character development throughout the length of the series.

This is one of the best reads i have ever gotten out of a shonen manga, each chapter is great, and even if the ending was rushed, and the series feels axed for leaving some details out and off paneling some entire arcs and scenes, Shimabukuro did such a great work with what he had that i can only feel grateful for having read this insanely crazy adventure, even if we don't get an space arc.

Toriko, was an enjoyable at first from the century soup arc, to the food tournament, it is more than decent series to read. Now, ever since we seen the new world the series is starting to lose its charm, the fight scenes feels way too one sided and the story isn't that compelling, this usually happens with long running series, they start to lose steam and quality

So I dropped this around chapter 300 and finally got back to it to read the latest 46 chapters and I must say Im not impressed. For a shounen manga its quite good up to chapter 250 ish but then it goes downhill faster then light. Now its just a bad copy bleach with 0 enjoyment to reading.

How to rate this trainwreck? First part of the journey was quite nice, but then we crashed and I got an arrow to the knee.

There is a decided lack in the development of any female characters. The imbalance in number wouldn't rankle so much if the relationships of the prevalent females could be as potent as the males. But as another reviewer said, they're not important and seem kinda plunked in. Unless they're grannies. The women of the hero's age group are second thoughts at best. That kind of careless story is misogynistic in undertone, lacking in emotional depth and plain bad writing.

If you can ignore that, the story's fine. One Piece, or even Bleach are the more enjoyable reads though. I like it enough that I keep reading in hopes that my main grievance will see improvement.

The homo-eroticism was over 9000

So much so, it seems, that the author felt the need suddenly to tone it down:

For hundreds of chapters, we see all the powerful, insanely muscular supermen pursuing the tiny MC/damsel in distress to 'partner with him', with the damsel-MC constantly getting captured by bad men and needing rescuing, and with the various 'hot' leads each having their opportunities to try to improve their loving relationship with the MC in their own way...

But I guess all that gay love was too much for the author/magazine, so suddenly and quite jarringly the male leads all get fiancees that they are going to marry, only one has the distinct sense that these guys never cared for these girls and are just picking them 'cos they have to...

I stopped reading at that point, not because I care for homo-eroticism (at all, frankly), but because I got tired of the ultra-generic plot and lost interest in the characters, who frankly are all very fake (especially the cry-baby MC).

The ugly drawings, dumb powers (the ultimate attacks are in the shape of freaking giant eating forks), and even dumber monsters, didn't help either. I guess the question is: how low can you go?

That being said, the manga was still fun at first, and I could even say that some parts had a bit of charm (ex: when the damsel-MC befriends one particularly gruff buff dude), but it seemed like the author was forced to drastically change MANY plot lines at one point, literally just changing scenes with all the past stuff that was being set up (more damsel'ing in the greatest distress yet by the MC) just getting resolved through a time-skip...

Ya can't help but feel like you are really being taken for a chump when they try to continue the story past that, but whatever. I totally lost interest, and I pity Jump if this is truly the best they can come up with currently...
