Great, dark short story with a satisfying end.
The art is exceptional, which I would expect by the creator of The Pawn's Revenge. Loving those rounded nose's!
However, the story was strongly based around a flashback involving violence between human and dog, and it was shown in a graphic illustration.
If you're concerned about being able to stomach the animal abuse, this is what to expect:
A mention of dog fighting in a way that indicates the person casually condones it (from a minor character, and not to be inferred as the author's opinion). A character reprimanded for throwing a rock at a dog (the act was not illustrated). An illustration of a character whose arm was mauled by a dog with a dog lying nearby that had a piece of metal shoved into its mouth, presumably dead, with blood surrounding them.
To be frank, if I read the above animal abuse spoiler first, I would have avoided reading this short story. However, I went in blind and did end up enjoying the twisted result between the two main characters. If I were in a different state of mind when reading it, though, I probably would have been too upset to finish.
My own thoughts on it: Based on the situation the violence against the dog occurred, it wasn't unwarranted. Making it graphic made it clear how awful the subsequent PTSD must have been. My biggest issue was the first thing mentioned in the spoiler above. What a piece of shit adult.
I also felt absolutely no compassion for the uke after it was revealed what he did. He can go ahead and rot in a cage for all I care. lol.
