Description

"Are you going to spread your legs for me like you did for my brother?" After Louis was dumped by his boyfriend of many years, his ex-boyfriend's younger brother, Theo, appeared before him. Frustrated with Theo's relentless inquiring, and in spite of his dejection, Louis lied: "I was the one who broke up with your brother." That's when Theo started to follow him. "If my lie is uncovered, it'll all end. That's good." That must have been what he thought, but before he knew it, Theo’s obsession for him began.

Too short and ??? for what it wants to do

I am a big fan of CTK, especially "Midnight Rain" captured my heart with its older, rough male romance. I rarely get these outside of bara or fanworks. "On Doorstep" was also a good one.

However, I am not sure about this work, and it quite frankly left me bamboozled and waiting. The topic of brother complexes is ever-present, yet never fully explored, some bits of self-harm for attention and stalker behaviour are thrown in - and yet I find nothing to grasp at. Who are these people and why are they the way they are? Even if they sometimes outright state their emotions in inner monologues, I still find myself asking "...ok?"
And I think this is the shortcoming of why this doesn't resonate with me, I don't really get why characters do the things they do, except "because plot". I feel like this manga was cut short, especially, when a big family confrontation rolls around, where verbal and physical violence was used: happens completely off-screen. The father, who played a big role in both brothers' lives, is never seen.

Overall, this manga is presentable, with a unique theme, but it ultimately falls short, literally. I expected more from CTK, and I will wait for the next work.

I wish I could recall more about this story apart from Theo's brother complex and Louis just being an irresponsible professor. I mean, I liked the NYC setting too even if it's not that 100% accurate, and I feel like the whole idea of family problems feels really boring after I read the latest chapters. Also, I feel like this is one of the weaker stories since it's just dull since nothing really compels me to look forward to future chapters at all.

As per usual, CTK sensei seems to bite off more than she can chew, with stories beginning with interesting premises and ending with execution that's always a little lacking. That's no exception here, but this denouement seems particularly rushed; I'm not sure if this is due to her publishing schedule or Libre's whims or whatnot but it feels as if there's a lot more loose ends than usual. I can't be bothered to reread the whole thing at this point in time but

the father who's so omnipresent in Nick and Theo's lives doesn't even show up; Nick just slowly fades away into the background with no real effort at unravelling his character and of course, Louis gives in to the relationship with not so much a bang as barely a whimper. At least On Doorstep had a semi-interesting twist, even if you absolutely knew where it was going.

CTK's art here is rather more minimalist than her other works (which I suppose may have negatively biased me), probably arising due to the characters' ages this time, but still cute nonetheless.

The dialogues are so packed

I didn't mind that the progress was fast. Usually, I get disappointed when romance immediately blooms with only a few romantic scenes or when it only happened within a short time frame but the dialogues and the feels the story showed me gave me more than enough validation that the pacing was absolutely normal. I also liked the concept or the theme this manga tackled. I mean yeah some stories got the bro complex, ex-lovers or age gap categs... but this author can still deliver the story as if those were new and something original. It's amazing actually, to be able to showcase a packed story into two volumes. While the length is right, I wish it was longer though.

And wow that's why the art style looked familiar. On Doorstep is one of my faves. I'm a fan of CTK now it seems.

What can I say? CTK sensei's works never disappoint. And this work might be one of her best. The story was great, about two characters who suffered due to a third and being vicious and trying to hurt each other, then growing closer over time. I'm a sucker for stories like this, and the two main characters were both so lovable and so human. I love their depth - how much they feel, and how it manifests in their actions and words. Even the older brother, the supposed 'bad guy', is such a colorful character. The ending was so sweet and happy, but I did feel a twinge of melancholy for the older brother.

The artwork is really top-notch. CTK's artwork is probably one of my top 5. It's clean and bold, and the characters look beautiful and unique in their own way. And I love how she draws their emotions too, it really spills out of the pages. It's an absolute pleasure on the eye, and I'm so happy this is 2 volumes, not just one. I can't wait to read more of CTK sensei's works!
