The art style really lends itself to the story and I'm a sucker for OP characters. Gender bender/yuri is a breath of fresh air every now and then. She will likely never lose and that's just how I like it.
If there is one thing I have to complain about, it's that the mc is a bit too wishy-washy in his/her attitude and has no real goal except traveling with the elf kid. If there was an actual goal, something to work towards, and if she was more consistent in personality, I'd like it a bit more. I'd prefer it if she was in badass mode all the time but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case, intentionally.
But overall a fun and nice read. Enough so that I went for the LN version to read a bit more, not that I know if it holds up to the manga adaptation. A lot of LNs get overly detailed and you notice lots of flaws you didn't do with how short the manga is to read. I mean, 3 volumes is hardly more than a few hours at most, if you read it while focused, I'd rush through 3 volumes of this type in around an hour easily. There isn't much dialogue to read so every page can take everything from a few seconds to half a minute at most, with most being less than 10 seconds. Some manga have a lot more dialogue.
I mean, geez, 3 volumes and we're probably just 3/4ths through volume 1 of the LN or something like that. They also skipped a lot of scenes.
That aside, give it a shot if you like this kind of stuff, it's easy to read and not as irksome to read as typical beta male "mr nice guy" stories.
The LN version of the mc, the original, is more capable and the events are very different, especially around volume 3 of the manga. Different enemies, different things happening, different settings. The LN made a lot more sense while the manga ended up with some weird parts that are illogical, like how nacht had some issues dealing with the demon and the automata and gets cut a lot of times (while in the LN she absolutely dominates them easily), how undine was drawn over by the half-elf's mana, which makes a lot more sense than being present all along and the adventurers are a bit stronger or rather the monsters a bit weaker. The LN is just quite a bit better and fills some weak points I mentioned earlier in this review. I guess the manga could be seen as a bit more funny though and the expressions are really nice and elevates the story a lot despite the flaws. Not sure why they felt the need to go a completely different direction from the original. Too bad it's discontinued, damn it.
