This is... for a lot of it, it's what you'd expect. A pretty bog-standard romcom with the cohabitation setting with a cute girl, though with some things going for it like the comical starting gimmick.
But it continues and I can't help but like it more and more. The major selling point for this is the incredibly likeable female lead. She's our pov character half the time, she's very funny and sincere and zany and just all-around likeable. Won me over very early and it just grew as it continued, which is good because she's one our pov mcs.
There are laugh-our-loud moments of comedy, and lots of smiling moments of comedy and/or cuteness.
Really the biggest negative with this series is the adaptational length. The original LN went for 5 novels. This manga adaptation goes for 3 tankoubon. And you can tell with the final chapter of volume 2 that things are starting to be abridged to reach its 3rd volume ending.
That said, it still did the ending really well. There are some times when you can tell things have been skimmed over but it's still covers it well with some decent exposition or montage that you're not lost, and the things that are adapted are still done well so you don't feel those particular events are rushed. Until the final chapter or so, which are more rushed but eh still good.
But, as I said, it's a negative because the series has done the other parts so well that I wish we had seen the other parts so we could enjoy them. The writing is good, the jokes are funny, and I do wish we got to see any moments with these two that we may have missed.
Especially if the novel covered
any parts post-relationship, pre-marriage, as I suspect it may have. God that would've been really fun to read!
[Edit 2: According to one comment, ch 15 adapts end of vol 3, so the montage in 16 showed bits of vol 4 and 5. Also apparently the manga ending was still somehow better..?]
So I think after a short-break of a few months, where my poor memory will mean I've forgotten a fair amount of details, I will go and read what I can of the books. I want to read their story again and read all the details we manga-readers missed out on.[ Edit 1: only 1.5 books of 5 have been translated :(]
I just finished reading this not even 20 minutes and had to go write a review while it was fresh and I was enthusiastic. I give this series about a 8, which Is 2 points higher than I was expecting going in, and 1 point higher than I expected after the first couple of chapters. And I suspect it'd be closer to a 9 if it adapted the whole 5 books without skipping anything.
[I'm also gonna check out what else this person has written. Because he was a fun writer with likeable cast. Apparently there's a novel not listed on mangaupdates but on novelupdates called "Even Though I Was Reincarnated as a Side Character, Is It Okay for Me to ‘Capture’ My Younger Sister (the Heroine) and Make Her Happy?". And another manga that is listed on mangaupdates called Handyman/Support Mage Really Wishes to Be Kicked Out of His Party - Adventurer Parties Around the World Frequently Kick Members Out, but My Party Members Think Too Highly of Me and Absolutely Refuse to Let Go of Me. So I'll check them out, too]
