For those in love with history/tale that covers the span of multiple generations, and for those who don't scoff/break down reading about the tragic love that repeats itself from mothers to daughters, this series is nearly perfect. The tale has its tragic heroines and greedy antagonists, as well as men who just can't help but fall for the main character, who apparently has a smile as beautiful as the sun.
Unfortunately, after reading four volumes of this series, I can say that I've had enough. I hate to be the minority, but I personally just can't stand the choices the characters make, and I hate most of their guts too. So, I'm outta here.
Honestly, for a modern manga reader, this series will be hard to digest--Not because it's more intelligent or anything, but because its style is a lot different from the typical manga of today. The art, for one thing, will irritate many. The shocked face of blank eyes with no eyeballs just crept the heck out of me. And oh the horror, I could not shed a single tear at the epic, because it was too removed from reality for me to relate to.
But don't feel discouraged and give it a try....If you are emotional, bring some tissues too--although it turned out I didn't need any.
