Damn, this is actually gold.
I like how realistic and believable the flow of story is, and the characters emotions are actually expressed very well.
Hopefully, the author continues this!

The manga has yet to reach its stride, but the premise is good. Unlike other manga of taboo subjects there is no use of comedy to undercut the serious tone. This is good, the mangaka shows an earnest attempt to portray the confusion of growing up and discovering what it means to be an adult.

Ecchi-ness is used as a plot device here, not as fan-service, there are no moments where the believability of the characters is broken. This constant connection to the reader causes us to immerse ourselves in the issues that plague the characters.

I have high hopes for this manga. If or when it is continued, I hope the mangaka resumes their excellent style and pacing.

This will take forever to finish and be scanned. Read Yubisaki Milk Tea first to know his style. He doesn't hold back, but he doesn't necessary go where you want him to go.

This is one of those manga that you would want to come back in about five years and read it then.

This series had caught my interest because it was so ordinary. Sometimes the best suspense is created in an ordinary environment. Not to say Rika is suspenseful, it most certainly isn't, but it keeps you interested. There's just that magical amount of everyday activity and activities behind the curtain that makes Rika seem believable.

The characters seem like they were just cut and pasted out of a slice of life story. However, they do have personalities that make them all the more human...even if sometimes you want to punch them in the face. Just like in real life!

At first, I thought it would be a more serious take on two siblings attempting an insestuous relationship, a topic that's simultaneously both captivating and uncomfortable. It's like a torture flick where you're disgusted at what's happening but you want to find out what else will happen. That's what Rika is like in the beginning, as Kazuya, Rika's brother, just comes across as a serious creep when those moments arise and you want to see what will become of him. Now that a love interest other than Rika has appeared, I'm curious to see where this story will end up.

Personally, it seems to be venturing away from incest and into "curious hormonal teen" territory. I can only hazard a guess as to how Kazuya, Rika, and everyone around them will change after all this. As cruel as it may sound, the consequences of their actions will make the story all the more intriguing to read. Oh yes they will.

Also, I have to agree that some characters acting as the mouthpiece of the author don't know what they're talking about. I have no idea where that talk of how "incest isn't allowed because MONEY MONEY MONEY" came from. Not only does it seem like a completely flawed argument, it doesn't fit the character that it comes from: a teenage boy in the judo club. Why would he know something like this? Was this answer only because he was put on the spot? Not only does this just dispose of the story's plausibility, but this coupled with his statement on women afterwards just makes the characters he's representing look pitifully shallow.

Speaking of shallow, why does practically every chapter have to start with Rika or some other girl in a half-naked pose? It's not interesting nor is it erotic: it's just annoying if not a tad creepy. The partial nudity in Rika is only there to further along Kazuya's character development, if not set a mood a little. It can be quite unnecessary at times, further dispelling any realism the story had developed. When that happens, and it doesn't fit the story being told, there are going to be problems.

For now, I'll keep observing Rika, as I have high hopes for it in the future. It's too early to give a rating, and I can't give a recommendation, as both the subject matter and the frequent use of half-naked middle schoolers may turn off a lot of people.

A Fresh and Boring Take

I was going to wait awhile before reading this but I jumped the gun(just like this manga does) and read chapters 1-10 so far.

First off, this isn't a romance manga. But It's biggest problem is that it's dry.

The manga is inconsistent. It lacks humour and silliness but what prompts the girl to rush things along is ridiculous. The girl herself comes off as dumb despite her preference for straight explanations. The manga starts off with fan service but then that's dropped, and then it's a random baseball game that just wastes time, and a random trip.

The way the parents are presented are like thinly veiled stand ins. But their extremes with the mom being portrayed unfavourably. I have no idea what type of parents would use stork stories, but I doubt any parents wouldn't explain the basic of it coming from a man and a woman in whatever simple way. It makes me wonder if the father isn't some author surrogate.

This manga doesn't have the humour, and subtext of Miyuki, the direction and goal of suzuka, the seriousness and emotion of Koi Kaze, or the appeal of my little sister can’t be this cute. Overall I'd say its style matches closer to Suzuka's but the guy doesn't have the boyish manliness of the boy in it(the build and shounen hero-esque look to him). And while being an athlete or perfect might seem fresh, shoujo already does it, Suzuka did the athelete more evenly. The kid just does not look handsome.

It amounts to a porn story without porn or an internet poster's ambivalent, and thoughtless reaction that they can sum up in one sentence.

At one point the girl asks some dude about incest and he has a ready made answer, like this happens all the time. I imagine this is just an excuse for another character to be the author's mouthpiece, which he beats you with over and over, from all directions, pretty much destroying any tension. His answer is ridiculous though, which shows the amount of thought the author is putting into it(zero). It was based on economics, except humans, like all animals, comes from a subsistence living background. Back then someone wanting to sleep with their sibling would have been odd, and gross mostly because nature makes it so. But beyond that there are perectly rational reasons not to, beyond genetics. For one, it often takes the form of rape, which I'm sure was even more prevalent before, if anyone rememebers the amish scandal where it came out that brothers and fathers were raping their sisters/daughters with the girls having nowhere to go. Now it'll take the form of emotional abuse or manipulation. If someone wants to help their siblings, then they should do so by showing them how to reach their goals(along with advice,encouragement ect).

It's easy to misinterpret emotion, and my post might seem angry. But what happens when I read this manga, is that I'm rolling my eyes while being bored.

I can't say that people won't like this. The average forum goer might agree with it's constant message since it's very internet age. But it's dry, purposeless, and inconsistent. It's too grounded that it makes the random bouts of ridiculousness from the characters seem out of place.

Just from reading the first chapter I got the feeling this manga would be awesome. While I didn't like the authors past work, Yubisaki Milk Tea, in this manga you can see how his art, storytelling, and everything else has improved impressively. If the story keeps the same flow and development it has so far (ch 4) It will definitely be one of the greatest manga in its genre, and almost the only one to treat incest with so much seriousness, and in such a solid manner.

Edit: I last checked this manga nearly two years ago(It has been dropped, anyways), but it left me greatly disssapointed. It has completely lost its way. The plot and setting go everywhere, and the focus in the titular character decreases by the minute. Either the author misled us from the very beginning, or he is the same unorderly and chaotic mess he was during yubisaki, and learnt nothing from the experience.

Very glad to see that Miyano-sensei is back. Yubisaki Milk Tea was one of my favorite manga of the past few years and to see that Miyano is back with yet another unique one. What made me love Yubisaki Milk Tea was the way it took things like homosexuality, Crossdressing, split personalities, and incest, and instead of lightly brushing upon the subjects, went boldly into them in a way other manga haven't. The one thing I can be confident about is that this will do the same. I am very happy this is being written and more importantly, happy it's being scanlated so I don't have to put in the extra work to find raws ^^;

i like how the story of the manga develops. even though it's only been 1 chapter, the mangaka was able to establish the main characters' without rushing too much. hopefully, i'll be able to see chapter 2. 🙂

I'll never cease to be amazed at how seriously some authors can approach a subject like this. I went into this expecting a delightfully naughty, shallow, fanservice-filled smutty series, and ended chapter one with a o////o face, and a genuine interest in the characters and story.
