Description

Takahata Shun's day at high school begins just as normal and boring as ever, but it doesn't end that way. There are some unrealistic things that bother me, but other than that is a good manga.
The only character that i disliked was Amaya, he makes no sense and is exaggerated.

I enjoy "death game" stories like these and As The Gods Will (ATGW) delivers all the deaths you wish although that's pretty much all it gives. ATGW suffers from a lack of characterization due to pacing. We're taken at a brisk pace from game to game without pause, leaving us with little to no information about what's going on though that's fine since this is merely setup for the second part (though the more interesting parts of the manga were near the end where they try to discover the game master; if they had interspersed the manga with moments like that, it would have been much more interesting). My main point of contention is that the characters who were stuck with leave us little to care for. There's not much to their characters aside from their names, how they look, and a quirk or two about them. As far as personalities go, they're pretty basic.

Our protagonist Shun Takahata has little to him other than suffering of ennui. He does things to stay alive but beyond that he's a mystery; he likes bugs and seems to be quick on his feet with the games. The other characters are more or less like that. Takeru Amaya seems to be a sociopath while Ichika Akimoto is a thrill seeker (she enjoys walking the line between life and death) and other characters die so quick that we don't really care much about them though that seems to be more of a pacing issue. I get the game of death aspects are the main attraction here but too much focus on one in favor of another ends up harming the overall story and thus the characters end up being a little too flat even for a manga.

Overall, although its a bit quirky in its scenarios (daruma dolls and whatnot) it's a quick and decent read delivering all the deaths, thrills, and blood and gore you wish.

Full of suspense and excitement

A really good serie. I usually stay away from mangas that have gore factor but this one is so interesting that I couldn't stay away (maybe also because it is the art is quite tame. Deaths are bloody but not exactly gory).

I finished the whole serie in one go and have moved onto reading the sequel. The sequel started pretty slow with many build-up chapters. But I advise you to stick with it because once the action starts, it gets just as good as this one.

I am very curios of the solution to the main mysteries (their fight against god) because so far as this serie go, the god has real super natural power while the main characters, despite being insanely strong and smart, are still human. I am wondering how the students can defeat the god in the end. Have been searching for similar series just to guess a possible answer to this but to no avail 🙁

when i read this at first i got a strange familiar feeling. like i've seen this plot somewhere.. than as i go further reading it. the art becoming more and more like takeshi obata's on bakuman. so i do some searching and this story is really similar with classroom of truth from bakuman. can someone explain something?

This story is literally the most intense manga I have ever read. It's engaging and keeps you on your seat, while surprising you about what happened or who got killed. After this, I'm not afraid to be surprised when another character dies - you just assume everyone is going to die until the end. Currently reading the second book, I'm super hyped.

There's gore, perverted stuff, and warped personalities.... but, somehow the plot is good enough that I managed to finish until the end....

now I'm even reading the sequel. LOL (part of it being that I got too attached to the two main guys in the series.... The weird athletic dude and the narrator)

I don't know what to say. I liked it but it was too weird and perverted for my tastes. Though at least it makes sense because

the so called god is a doushinji mangaka with some major issues who was given power by a creepy "I'm not an alien"-girl (forgive me if that is not the correct spelling or terminology)

For a survival manga really good. The characters are likeable even though they are weirdo adrenaline junkies. The plot wasn't bad but it wasn't exceptional. I was kind of disappointed with the ending. (it's a cliffhanger) I am looking forward to the sequel.

The games are interesting and you don't really grow that attached to any particular character. The manga deals with a dark subject but the atmosphere isn't dark at all. The manga kind of fails to demonstrate the gravity of the situation onto the reader.

It's a total rip off of that manga written by that antagonist in Bakuman but that was exactly what I was looking for. When this series first came out it was like a wish come true (apart from the whole having to wait for it to be published thing >.>)

The supernatural athletic abilities of a couple of the characters are both a con in that it detracts from the realisticness of how the survival games are beaten but also a pro because it makes Amaya's character pretty awesome.

One great thing about this series is how you can never seem to know who's going to die amongst the secondary characters. And the line between Primary and secondary characters is at times blurred.

Considering the source material though (those of you who have read that part of Bakuman will know what I'm talking about) perhaps even some of those i consider primary characters will meet their end.

Captivating, intense, and mindbreaking. This survival horror is truely unique and one of its kind. This is probably the "truest" survival ones ever where fake teamwork and luck doesn't happen unlike coughCage of Edencough. Basically, this manga gives me the feel that if I was in the same situation as the main, I would be dead round 0.
