Osananajimi Kanojo no Morahara ga Hidoin de Zetsuen Sengen shite Yatta

Description

Since their childhood, Souma Ichinose has been at Hanabi Kisaragi’s beck and call with Hanabi even forcing Souma to become her boyfriend. Their relationship however continued to be so heavily one-sided due to Hanabi’s constant manipulation and verbal abuse, that it leads him to suffer a mental breakdown and end up in a hospital bed.

It is at this moment that Souma realizes he cannot continue this way of living with Hanabi and declares he is breaking up with her, much to her shock and disbelief.

Seeking to reinvent himself, he gets a makeover that is immediately noticed by his classmates and launches him into instant popularity. He then unexpectedly becomes acquainted with Yukishiro Fumi, the quiet girl sitting next to him who is the complete opposite of Hanabi.

Will Souma be able to enjoy the new life he has found while fending off the attempts of his jealous ex Hanabi from trying to interfere with his new relationships?

...if you think what kind of parents would produce such a disaster of a daughter that since earliest age was already apt at manipulating people like it was nothing.
One wonders where the MC's parents were looking as well - you can't miss the sh*t that your son was getting (for years!).
And the sudden "switch" of the MC I also find a less believable part of the story.

Interesting concept but horrendous executions and follow through.

The formula is following the beat of a webtoon.
The portagonist breaks up with girl, he then becomes super popular with everyone after cutting hair, he is actually the fastest runner in the school as he used to go slow because of his ex telling him to. He gets challendge by ex and her new man in a race amd he wins. She is jelous and tries to sabotage the female love interest of mc.

Like this is wholesome shit, not what i was hpping for.
I was hoping the ex gf would be toxic, but not so overtly. Like she would make comments which would dig at the mc conciousness, like how a a person would tell their significant other "let me handle this, you are not able to" like something with more nuance unlike this.

I also dont like how the ex gf acts. We understand she is the villain, stop trying to rub it into the readers face. Also with her archtype, i would believe that she would have made a gigantic scene about the break up, making mc feel bad and just letting her win. However this does not happen. Instead she just leaves mc alone despite being whiny and shit.

Regardless the author i have no clue what they were thinking in regards to execution. This feels like a shitty pornwha about a guy getting betrayed but then become more powerful than the betraying, but in a boring way

Good topic, too fast tansition

I think that in time of pushover male protags, having manga where the MC finds the courage to push back against manipulative abuse is important. Its also enjoyable to see his life after he does it. And no matter how pathetic it will sound, i hope it will serve as inspiration to someone, somewhere, to also put the foot down and stop the abuse coming their way.
that's the good about it.

But, I find one aspect problematic, or rather, unrealistic: after years of soft but real mental abuse, the MC just be like "ok that's enough" on day, turns flips and reboots his life.

That's not how it works.
Mental abuse is horrible, esp comming from a person who "cares about you". It takes time and effort to really get over years of manipulation and abuse. and even in time when one is working on oneself, there are a lot of internal insecurities that chew on one.

but we see NOTHING of the kind in our MC. it's like he flipped the chad switch, and is now Dr. Livesey walking his way through life.

i think part of potential of this manga got wasted by not actually showing the MC struggle a bit to get all the bad things vent out of him.

Bot other than that, it's OK.

I'm enjoying this so far, I tihnk the commenter below doesn't realise how abusive the ex was though, it's not that the MC was a pushover its that he was abused to a point where he no longer thought for himself. I do agree though that his family not doing anything is weird though.

If the story follows the novel then we'll prolly only be getting 3-4 volumes and that'll be fine. I apreciate having a more realistic "I don't care about you anymore" character thats a bit more grounded in reality although as mentioned somehow a haircut is what changed him from a 1/10 to a 10/10 lol

Toxic relationship alert

I'm only at the first chapter, but I can tell right away: the guy is a pushover and his kouhai-girlfriend is entitled, manipulative to the point of cruel.

From the look of it, she has liked him since they were kids, accidentally discovering his good looks under the bangs (yup, covering your face with bangs and glasses cliches here, it's really mind-boggling). So she did everything to bully him, make him feel horrible about himself to the point of having really low self-esteem. Maybe that helped her monopolise him all for herself, leaving him friendless, etc. The relationship was like a master-servant but not in a good way cause he was always in a victim-blaming situation.

I don't understand how it got to that point that he had no friends, only hung out with her and reading no books or magazines to gain even a tiny bit of communication/socialisation skills. For example, parents? Relatives? Cousins? But that changed suddenly (how?) when he decided to breakup there and there with her, cut his bangs, and inadvertently and unknowingly became a hottie of 'national treasure' level and everyone squeals at him (yup, lmao, furreal though if someone that good-looking, no matter how shabby their appearance is, they will still be good-looking).

Anyhow, from the poster, I think there will be another girl showing up and the ex-girlfriend will not be going anywhere but trying to win him back with her pathetic excuses (of: I loved you so much, I didn't know what to do but to be a complete bitchass to you). That'll be annoying.

Edit: Yeah, although I said it's annoying, here I am reading lol. 2 chapters in and the ex is delusional, the main dude suddenly gains common sense. I wonder how many edits will there be in the future? (As long as it doesn't get intolerable I guess.)
