(I'm writing this as I read it, sofar I am only 1 volume in).
Even before Gintama ended, I was lamenting over how another good comedy series had transformed into a moody downer drama. I wanted something that would stay a comedy from beginning to end. Since Konosuba managed to deliver that, I had faith because this series is by the same author.
I'm hoping this stays episodic & doesn't delve too deeply into character development, because that's always when they start developing long story arcs & start getting too serious. If I wanted to read something like that, I wouldn't look for it in a comedy.
This series is close enough to Konosuba in flavor that you could believe it took place in the same universe or even be an alternate universe take on the same story. Both are about a man transported to an RPG-like world where he meets a blue haired girl, a loli, & a busty blonde, & they do animal quests for money. The biggest difference is that the hero actually has a life goal he wants to achieve & a rival who follows him into this world.
It doesn't matter if you're a man or woman, straight or gay, this series has eyecandy for everyone. Sexy women, lolis, shirtless men, wolf furries, catgirls. There's straight, yuri, & bara shipteasing.
This is a harem in to most technical sense, as almost everyone has friendzoned eachother. We have a chaste hero with the heart of a child who is mistaken by the entire populace of this world as a bisexual pervert, due to his apparent disdain for clothing & love of snuggling anything fluffy regardless of gender. You show him a naked girl, he only sees a pair of fluffy ears & a tail. He is a hoarder who collects animals & sees furries more as animals than people.
Linda Blair, a gigantic dragon disguised as a Loli, develops an either sibling-like or daughter-like relationship with Genzo, like Kagura did with Gintoki in Gintama, & also like Kagura, only thinks about food & eating, & is ridiculously strong despite her small stature. While friendly & childish around her comrades, she is rather stoic & cold with anyone else. I haven't seen a character this consistently obsessed with food since Volta from The Arcana.
Shigeru is a gold digger & a penny pincher. Her relationship with Genzo is almost mom-like or something akin to a manager. Carmella is an egotistical lolicon vampiress & the buttmonekey punching bag of the series. She & Genzo don't get along, but she has a crush on Linda Blair. Wolfgag & Mischa are basically Team Rocket trying to steal Ash's Pikachu, that Pikachu being Genzo's Earth puppy Hiroyuki. MAO bears a strong resemblance to Rin Matsuoka from Free! Iwatobi Swim Club, if he abused steroids for years, & has that same unintentionally (?) homoerotic rivalry with Genzo that Rin had with Haruka, which is paralleled in yuri form with the rivalry between Linda Blair & Yuanna, & then there's the giant ant.....
