I reserve a 1 star rating for stories that are written extremely poorly and are an insult to me in some way, shape or form. This one insults the reader's intelligence.
The premise and world building, and how they're used in the plot, are fantastic. Alas, as time goes on, time becomes a problem... and so does the art. And then so does characterization. And then so does suspension of disbelief. It should have been axed the moment chapter 39 was submitted.
You see, the main villain arrived around the same time as the main character (MC), and the villain was similar to the MC in that he was powerless before they both go through the same incident.
Yet somehow the villain has gained years of experience and a massive army when the MC has had only weeks and gathered 4. The concept of how powers are gotten is interesting, and the plot is actually pretty solid, but due to the flow of time being impossibly different for characters who supposedly share the same origin events, it stops making sense the further you read.
The art starts out good, but by chapter 33 the characters start to resemble a combination of sketchy line work and older, bubbly american newspaper cartoons like Archie or Beetle Bailey. It's starting to leave the "anime" aesthetic altogether in some panels.
I genuinely don't know what to think about it. Fanservice and slight nudity are too much for what I like to read, but is rare enough I can at least say the story isn't about those things.
And then chapter 39 rolls around and the story would be better written by a toddler. I mean it literally, a toddler could put together a more believable story. Without spoilers, here's what happens:
A misunderstanding of "who's at fault" causes a new character to do something. The main character would normally just clear this up by talking, except the author had an aneurysm or something and the main character doesn't. Then, when you think it can't get worse, once a character does start talking to clear things up, instead of telling the truth, they try to show this new character their misunderstanding is morally wrong. They're f*** virtue signaling someone who's heart is in the right place instead of telling the truth.
If that happened in any realistic scenario, the MC and all his monster girls would be dead because they're still seen as evil and are insulting the actual hero who cares about doing what's right. Series over, go home everyone, nothing left to see here.
Most beginner fanfiction is written about as well... no, that's an insult to the beginner fanfiction authors.
I don't know why, but the quality was decent for much longer than most isekai, then suddenly decides to compete with preschoolers.
