Can people who have been deeply traumatized get free of the binds of their trauma so they, too, can experience trust, happiness, and fulfillment?

This is a story of reincarnation, repetition, and difference affecting several key characters: the MC, ML (emperor), SL (MC's half-brother), and a eunuch. Their first lives together damned them. In their second lives together, ML tries to break the cycle. While I think of the MC as having been the same person in both lives, I cannot see the ML as being the same.

The artwork is lovely, almost dream-like. It serves such an angsty story well.

Also, I'm reminded of the lyrics from a Police song: "If you love someone, set them free."

A Guilty Pleasure

You really need to know what you're getting into before picking up this manga, alright? This seme is a WILD one; an oppressive tyrant who doesn't hesitate to wield his power as emperor with absolute brutality and ruthlessness. His unhinged, obsessive love for the uke leads to him lashing out in the most batshit, vicious ways towards everyone around him, including his unwilling lover. This is a story about obsession, violence, and madness. If you're easily triggered, don't read this. There is a redemption at the end of it all and, shockingly, a happy ending, but the road there is paved with much bloodshed, pain, and death. It is not for the faint of heart.

But I loved it. Hah! The story is so messed up, but I could not stop reading because it was just so juicy. It scratched that itch in the corner of my heart that craves something twisted and dark every once in a while. I hated this seme so much, but I couldn't look away from him as he descended deeper and deeper into madness. There is something grotesque here that resonated with me. It will for some of you, as well. For most folks, I expect they will turn away in horror and disgust.

Hard to rate

Personally, I found the art harrowing. The main characters have super flat expressions and the side characters just looked upsetting and uncanny with enormous, overdetailed heads on ultra-flat bodies or features that are placed upsettingly.
The story is nothing to write home about but if you enjoy the art and you're in the market for a reincarnation redemption with a royal seme, you could do worse than this.

disappointed - the story not the art design

I definitely expected more from a Psychological Yaoi Manhwa.
The art design of the main story was really beautiful.
The side story was so bad compared to the main story that it hurt your eyes.
It makes you sick how the MC blamed the kaiser for everything until almost the end... It was all his own fault.
4 chapters before the end of the main story the story stopped making sense to me as if the author didn't have a better idea or wanted to finish quickly.

I like the premise, the structure of the story, the way it plays out—it's a refreshing take on the tyrant emperor seme trope.

But I never managed to fully immerse in the story or connect with the characters' emotions. Maybe it's the art? I don't mind the unusual art style, but their faces often seem flat, unexpressive, etc. Or maybe it's the translation? It's like I was reading a record of their emotions rather than experiencing them. Or maybe it's just me.

It's not bad, but not something I'll re-read.

Solid Polished Story

This was a solid polished story about two people that ended up in a toxic entanglement that lasted more than one lifetime. The redemption for both the main characters is written beautifully and the art work was beautiful.

The story in the first lifetime for both characters is tragic however the second lifetime has a redemption arc for both of them and there is a happy ending…I won’t say anymore just throwing that out there in case there’s people that avoiding this because of the tragic 1st lifetime.
