By now I've probably read thousands of manga, and I've never come upon anything like this. It's a manga version of classic crime fiction, full of greed, casual cruelty, and tough young men giving full vent to their aggressive impulses. The main character works in Shinkjuku as a "scout" searching on the streets for young women who are willing to work as bar girls, soapland girls, or actresses in pornographic videos. He's very young, just 19, and a bit stupid, and initially completely ignorant of how to get on in that world. The story of his working his way into it, and learning his way around it, is startlingly violent, and mean. The art is very highly developed (shading, etc., and characters sometimes becoming almost grotesque), and perfect in style for the subject matter. The storytelling is expert. There is constant suspense, mostly centered around whether the main character is going to get killed someday by some of the bad people he crosses paths with.
There is a fascination of ugliness in this. You may like it if that, or just plain suspenseful storytelling, sounds interesting to you. It certainly worked for me. Having seen this, I have come to realize that most likely there are other seinen manga like this, the vast majority of which are never scanlated. I'm very grateful to Delinquent Scans for bringing us this one.
