Description

Ed Rothstaylor is a third-rate villain in a game, disowned by his family and kicked out of the dormitory for his misdeeds. One day, our main character wakes up as this very Ed, and realizes he must earn a scholarship so he can graduate and be set for life. Now living in the woods, he resolves to keep away from the protagonists, but four of the female leads just won't leave him alone. Not only that, his presence starts to change the timeline and events of the game! Can Ed help the story progress while staying out of the limelight?

The author is either lacking any creativity or purposely wrote the main character to be a stubborn dumbass. I don't know which is worse.

It's your typical super competent Korean main character but still suffers from the trope of being hopelessly dense in all matters relating to romance and somehow still being an idiot despite the author's attempts to portray him as smart and cunning.

The plot revolves around the main character not wanting the story to deviate from what happens in the game. Unfortunately for him, he's a dumbass so he decides to directly influence the story and interact with all the characters before acting all surprised that the story is changing from what happens in the game. Like b***h, what you expect was going to happen???

Being stubborn about not wanting to change the story even though your very existence changes it, is by far the most annoying trope in this type of setting and it unfortunately lasts for 20+ chapters.

There's a good story underneath the trash, but it doesn't change the fact that there's still trash.

Reviewed @ch12 (wasn't fond of fan tl so I'll come back when official is further)
So a guy is isekaied. We've read that before.
Into a game world. Read that before.
Into a villain. Read that before.
Into a weak villain that's supposed to be taken down early on. Read that before.
He tries to stay out of the way of the main cast so the bad ends don't happen while also trying to improve his own life. Read that before.

It's unimaginative in it's premise. And in it's general points.
But the execution isn't bad. Some fight scenes are cool.
And, most of all, every few chapters there's some very funny parts with the facial expressions and humour. So that's definitely bumped this from a 6/10 to about a 7. I'm having a good time, but not so much that I feel the need to follow the fan TL or download the webtoon app.

Amendment @ch25 (Act 2) and reading some of Act 1 of novel
The novel has a few more details that do elevate it. I'd say it's a bit better. And it's definitely better when it comes to the end of Act 1. Because he goes into much more detail in his head about what it all means and what the narrative point was of the Act 1 'villain'. I got very emotional.
This lead to a better appreciation of the comic version.
I'm partway through Act 2, now, in the manhwa version, and it's also definitely a step-up
Basically one reason he loves the game so much is because over the course of the game the characters, especially the female ones, are incredibly well-developed. Their layers revealed.
The manhwa doesn't do a good job of that in Act 1 (the novel does better) but it's heading there in Act 2. Also the plot is simply more complicated, in a good way, in Act 2.

He's a whiny b**** who constantly worries about the main story changing. Well, moron, it's kinda too late for that; things have obviously changed and obvious will continue to change, and literally every single person who is reading the manga can see that. And yet the MC is pointlessly stubborn and refuses to acknowledge the blatantly obvious truth that he can't simultaneously have his character not follow the story while also simultaneously making everything else the same. I got 20 chapters deep and the moron STILL hasn't accepted the blatantly obvious truth. It's incredibly frustrating and ruins all the other stuff the manga does well.

On that subject, it has great art, great worldbuilding, great characters (other than the MC), and decent story.

But... the MC just sucks so much I can't keep following it.

It's style is similar to any VN japanese manga,

But with a korean flavour.

Which is

The MC is competent.
The womenn doesn't automatically falls in love without reason.

Their love and motivation is understandable
The first 6 chapters i understand why it is rushed.
I mean you are reading manhwa,
You are not here to read walls of text.

But oh well

This works is about our MC who builds his way up top not to regain his lost glory but to survive.

There are a lot of wholesome and pure actions scenes. I have not read the novel. But I don't care. This is pretty well done.

As noted in the title, I have mixed feelings about this. FIrst off, the good: I was pretty instantly drawn into the story here, and frankly really liked the characters and setting. Something about it (and I can't really clarify what) just really captured my attention. The MC is interesting, the setting is intricate (being put into a high difficulty game, yet the game doens't have trash attributes, etc), the potential female leads are great. So much so, that I read all the (few) available chapters, and then went out to find the original (some spoilers in comments really made me want to read more, perhaps even to the level of trying out the MTL if necessary).

However, all that is based on the setting and source material. THe main stumbling block, is that is an ABSOLUTE HOT GARBAGE ADAPTATION.

Let me be clear, the adaptation is trash.

As one commenter reporter (and I later verified it myself), the first 6 chapters of the manhwa adapt EIGHTEEN (18) chapters of the original story. That's a ratio that is beyond absurd. The first 6 chapters of this story is nonsensical, and filled with plot holes because entire scenes, and at one point, an entire chapter, is just flat out skipped. Skipping that much in the beginning of a story, when the world building and character motivations are just being established, is almost a fatal deathblow to the story.

And to be fair, the next 6 chapters (12 are all that's out as of this review) are much better paced. I did mention that i was drawn to the story, and i'm not really sure why lol.

So yeah, TL;DR, absolute trash adaptation for the beginning. I highly recommend waiting until more has been released and then marathoning a bunch of it, because the beginning is REALLY rough to get through. I wish the studio adapting this did a better job, because I actually really like the original (read all that's TL'd, and still debating MTL at this point).

Verdict: wait a bit, but then definitely check it out when there's a ton of chapters to read.
