Description

Haesoo is a cynical writer of a romance column, while Joowon, his former stepbrother, is a famous actor. The two go way back - thrust together when their parents remarried, their relationship is far from simple. Brothers? Soulmates? Friends with benefits? Or nothing at all? Theirs is a delicate balance between lust and loathing, dating and breaking up, irritation and infatuation. When the mysterious photographer “K” takes an interest in Haesoo, events begin to spiral out of control. As the lines between art and reality become increasingly blurred, what direction will this story take? Cheap romance? Sensual erotica? Or something much more twisted?

In one of the earlier chapters, the bottom MC tells one of the tops not to cum inside of him. He also tells the top to stop and tries to get the top off of him when the top is closed to cumming, and the top basically forces him down and cums inside of him.

It was such a rollercoaster, the art is a masterpiece. Only thing that got on my nerves ist that I had the feeling there where too many flashbacks and it kind of got dragged out? But otjer than that, it was great! Unfortunately, I couldn't find the 2 extras anywhere, that's too bad. I really wonder what the extras where about.

Incredible characterization

Absolutely one of the better yaoi I've ever read.
The characterization is really what stood out the most here. All three of the charas in the love triangle are flawed but complex and deeply fleshed out individuals. It was a pure delight to see how they changed each other over the course of the story.
Maybe slightly spoilery?

Being the character in the love triangle who isn't in the final couple isn't "punishment", the third character isn't irrelevant and his story is still worth telling. The feelings that you as a reader invest in every character isn't wasted if they aren't in the main romance because the point of the story is the journey of their growth, imo

Really disappointed about where this romance went

I'll do my best to avoid specific spoilers because I wish I'd read a review about this before reading: I don't like how the relationship ended up, and it's not just because I prefer one love interest over the other in the usual way (he's cuter, he's a better person, etc etc). The narrative led me in one direction and then pulled the rug out from under me, like, "haha, sucker!" It felt like a cheap trick, which was especially disappointing after 100 chapters of good writing.

It's not that I necessarily need a happy ending with everything tied up neatly, or for one love interest to end up a villain. It just felt like...why did I read 100 chapters of emotional development in a relationship that didn't go anywhere, and barely any significant interaction between the couple that ended up together? What a waste.

Actual spoilers:

I think I would have been okay with the ending if we'd had a reunion scene BEFORE Haesoo left the country, or if Joowon had properly expressed his feelings for Haesoo in the middle of Haesoo and Taku's relationship development, so I could better empathize with Haesoo's choice. That lunch between Jowoon and the actress where he talks about finally understanding his character? If he'd said any of that to Haesoo, and I saw Haesoo react to it, I would have felt much better. But the way the story went, it felt like Haesoo went back to Jowoon because of the same twisted, troubled feelings he had at the start, like the 100 chapters of emotional development had absolutely no impact on him—which is just super dissatisfying from a reader's perspective.

It's rare for me to hate a comic this much for something other than really low quality writing.

I don’t think I should expect much from a “stepbrothers in love” trope and maybe I did at first. There’s a lot of introspection but it ultimately falls flat from showing any redeeming qualities to the main characters. And maybe that’s a point, but I hated seeing Taku go through what he did and still have the most amazing growth in the series only to be a random moment in the end. Two fucked up guys end up together, but that’s pretty much it..

Only thing I truly enjoyed was Bak Dam’s art.

The traditional love triangle trope but not overdone and boring like many others with a similar plot. The stepbrothers have a very difficult relationship with a lot of history between them. Their family and work situations make it unrealistic for them to continue to be together, despite their intense feelings. The photographer comes in and sways Haesoo's heart, enough for Haesoo to feel like he able to finally give up on his brother, and is able to fall in love with someone who can give him love. This manhwa tackles the uncertainty well, Haesoo is pulled equally between his feelings between both of the men until he is finally able to realize which one he truly loves. I felt like the author did a great job at making it feel equal as well, based on how I couldn't quite tell which man he would choose in the end. Each time I was sure, the characters would shift just enough that I would start to second guess again. In the end, I found my original guess to be correct, but I'm not at all disappointed because it was still a rollercoaster to get to that point.

On the art, I am extraordinarily pleased with this artist and I love their style. It stays clean and professional looking throughout the entire story, the aesthetic qualities are very high and were the main draw for me when I saw an image of Haesoo on a BL manhwa rec page. My only issue is small, and is about how the artist draws the area under eyes which looks odd sometimes when the character has a close up. It is not a big problem, though, and virtually unnoticeable once you get used to it. The chapter title pages are always so gorgeous, I look forward to making pc and phone wallpapers out of some of them.

I was particularly impressed with the text used in the manhwa, something that I don't normally comment on. The translations really brought out a poetic aspect of the text, and gave the piece a beautiful air that is meant to show how great a writer Haesoo is. The narration was honestly as beautiful as the art style, and I think it highlighted the characterization of Haesoo so it was easy to fall in love with his character.

I'm probably going to reread this manhwa at least a few times in the future, and I recommend others to check it out if they are already familiar with other BL titles.
