If you have any positive feelings of suzuka I recommend you don't read if you want to keep them. Unlike kimi no iru machi and suzuka this isn't primarily a love story romance plays apart but the story is more so about achieving your dreams no matter what.
If your expecting a proper love story of fuuka the daughter of suzuka prepare to be heart broken in worse way possible since fuuka is actually a likable character unlike her mom. And theres really no point for this story to even be connected to suzuka and does more harm because of it.
I just got into reading mangas and fuuka is the longest running manga that I read and I am hyped with each chapter that comes out. I can't even begin to describe the tingling sensation and excitement I get waiting to know what comes next. The series is just perfect. I give it a 10
I've currently read until chapter 131, and I can say that the major plot twist everyone hated was necessary. Blame it on human nature, but people who've gone through struggle seem to have more depth.
1 year ofter losing Fuuka Akitsuki, they've reformed as a new band with Fuuka Aoi. They overcome a lot just to reach that point. The part before Fuuka's death was the typical high school story. After her death, the band moved forward into the world of the pros. By chapter 120+, Yuu and the story moved forward from their grief and are finally giving their all to be musicians. It feels like they're still beginning. So give this story a chance, as I'm sure Fuuka Akitsuki would have wanted them to keep playing together.
Update: I just read chapter 136. This evil author, I've never felt so trolled by a story before!
I like it so far, though it disappointed me a little around volume 5. It has its ups and downs, but as for now it's going stagnant. Still looking forward for more development between all of the characters. But if this were to become an anime, I see Haruna's seiyuu as Yoohei Kawakami from Alexandros.
Fuuka dies in chapter 36 by the fender of the dreaded No-Fun Truck, the equivalent of getting Fridged in western comics. The series was genuinely good and handled some normally cliche moments with grace, and then abruptly kills the only actually interesting character in the entire cast either as a plot device, or because things were going too well and the romance was doing fine, and you can't have things going too well or else things are gonna go bad real fast in order to keep ratings up.
I've never heard of this author before but apparently this isn't their first time Trucking someone in their series, nor is it the last time they do it in Fuuka itself, which makes me think they're just an authorial troll. I've never seen someone throw out potential so insanely fast like Fuuka did, but I knew she wasn't long for this world when she commented that Yuu had a great singing voice.
Do not bother reading Fuuka
If you are like me, you finished reading Suzuka and still wanted more so now you are looking to start Fuuka.
The characters presented in Suzuka are NOT involved in this story in any greater depth than simple cameos. Yes, the title of the story is Fuuka but just like with Suzuka, the MC was not her but the guy, and the story was about how she affected his life and others, and vis versa.
I am very upset with how many spoilers are being given away about this series in the top comments. It is to the extent that I was not able to match the emotion expressed throughout, even though it was done very well. Surprises were no longer surprises...
This story is very good as the author continues to do the same extensive character development found in Suzuka, so I highly recommend reading this story. However, please read it with an open mind to new characters and new directions rather than for the limited appearances of the characters from Suzuka. And as a last note, where Suzuka was about Track and Field, Fuuka is about Music (more specificly the Indie Rock Band scene)
This Manga started off so great for me but ended half way through to be devastating...
THE FREAKING FEMALE MC GETS KILLED!!! WHYYYYY...
Man, seriously...I love it when there is someone who pulls a character out of depression by sheer happiness and being full of life. Then SEO pulls a twist that heavily corrupted the whole series into a Ganbatte in the end.
Until Chapter 35 => 10 Points
From Chapter 36 => 1 Point (0 actually...)
Read Suzuka...SEOs best work in my opinion and skip this one.
Halfway (chapter 36) it changes up, alot, which is why many people gave it a 1. Suddenly, the story becomes one of redemption and the pursuit of happiness in the face of grief. Great read.
Initially, the romance is a generic love triangle with a generic tsundere and a generic childhood friend type character. In that, it's similar to Suzuka, although done better in my eyes. It doesn't screw around as much, and rather than doing track FOR romantic purposes, the protagonist plays music AND experiences romance. It has its similarities, but it's definitely not a rehash. That said, this sort of generic work is still predictable and sometimes a bit dull. I'd probably give this section a 6.7/10 because as far as 'generic' goes, it's well done. Then, there's a rather interesting twist, and that makes me think this is going in a much more interesting direction. Honestly, not enough has happened for me to give this section a fair assessment, but it's been enjoyable after the twist, so I have high hopes. If those hopes are met, it might score it a 9/10.
