Binged this in one night and went on to read the raws. The food, quirky designs, and customer of the day setup are interesting and have potential to be great. The underworld system and backstories are compelling enough. What could have made it better? More thought to character development and thought provoking fights imo.
I kinda agree with the other reviewer about the mc female. It's not a deal breaker for me to stop reading as I'm used to like...80% of manga reducing females to plot device pushing damsels in distress or Mary Sue enablers rolls eyes.
The mc female isn't that bad in certain instances, like in the start when she has a strong survival instinct and guts plus some amount of brains to deal for her life, and in the skull jack episode. The problem is consistency. I think the author is trying to use her to show the morally right/kind side of humanity vs an otherwise cold-blooded merciless society. But you can always do that without reducing the mc to naivety to the point of stupidity. Especially so when it contradicts her actions. Would have made the manga into one of those thought provoking morally grey psychological thrillers instead of the typical gory seinen/edgy shounen fare. That would have pushed it into 8-9 territory.
Other than that, the art is good and character visuals distinct enough. There seems to be an overarching plot as well which adds to suspense.
I just can't do it. I kept reading, hoping that she learns something, but nope, she just keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over. She does stupid stuff in the moment, she ignores instructions, she doesn't think ahead. She's an idiot. It's even in her name.
I've read manga with idiots for main characters before. What makes this one particularly unbearable is the fact that she's being stupid in life or death situations. And she's still alive. It always works out in the end and her stupidity is 'justified', all because she's the main character. I just can't read a story where the only reason the main character is still alive is because she's the main character. I give up.
