Based on the PS2 video game, it is also loosely based on the Water Margin classics, though it's limited only to the gathering of 108 Stars of Destiny in order to restore order.

Better Than The Game

I played the game first, then proceed to read the manga. In the game, so many moments should be powerful but I can't feel anything from it.

Lulu's death supposed to be a powerful moment, but I feel nothing in the game

yet in manga, I feel the desperate Hugo.

Another example is in the end. In the game

everyone said their goodbye and the credit scene rolled, not in the manga though. They play Romeo and Juliet as the ending

The manga explore more depth of the characters, and I love Ceaser and Hugo's characters in here. They are BFF, but in the game, they just Flame Champion and his strategist.

Typifies what I hate about manga

Based upon a game this manga has a lot of characters. After reading the 1st 2 volumes there appears 2 be two main characters that fit the stereotypes of shounen manga.
A overpowered super skilled female knight.
A hot tempered and unskilled but with high potential young male barbarian fighter.
When ever a male MC is strong we get people complaining about how overpowered he is e.g. mahouka koukou no rettousei. Yet i have never seen anyone complain about a female character being overpowered even when the ratio of series with strong female leads is many times more than strong male leads. Or usually when there is a strong male lead then there will be a weak male lead whose POV the manga is told through.
Also the female MC is cornered in the first volume so she decides to attack and burn the enemy village as means of escaping from the enemy. When a boy no older than 10 attacks her after seeing the devastation she has done, she swiftly kills him.
Of-course we are still supposed to support her because she is a strong cool beauty. Its how completely amoral female characters can get away with being scum in series like black lagoon by just having badass skill and attitude.
Not gonna bother with reading this crap any further.

Diverse characters, gorgeous art, emotionally-moving narration

This is easily a recommendation for anyone who enjoys a fantasy story. Though it's based off a video game, this manga is an effective stand-alone. As a fan of the games, I must say that this delivers better than its original in terms of plot and characterization. I should also emphasize the art; Shimizu Aki honestly has the talent as a mangaka. The manga was clearly made with an inspired artist. This along with Vinland Saga (and maybe Chang Ge Xing, but it might be a little too early are my favorite manga of all time. I'd go back and read them again and again.

Hmm, what country do you live in RilleL? I've had all 11 volumes since last school year.

Any way, even though I prefer the game, this version is actually really good. I've read other games that are adapted into manga, and I have to say, this is the best I've seen so far in English. It stays relatively faithful to it's game counterpart, while still reading well. I really wish there was a better way to display more of thew characters (in every Suikoden game you recruit 108 characters) but I can understand why in a graphic novel this would become a very unrealistic proposition.

I really wonder why it was Suikoden III that was selected to have a manga adaptation. All the other Suikoden games received novels, and none of those are in English. I really wish that the first two games were graphic novels as well because I really liked them better. But this is great too, go read it!

Wow, very nice indeed. I honestly didn't thought much of the manga the first time i saw it (i thought the art was too shounen, how wrong i was). Amazing artwork with a very intriguing story.
Even though it's a little light on politics and factions, it's still a little too much for a shounen imo.
The only downside is probably that we won't get any new volumes soon. Vol6 is the latest and nothing is pointing towards a vol7 release...

I found myself rereading this series a few times.

A lot of it mirrors the game, while keeping a nice progression in story. There are some differences, but it's not that noticeable.
