Seriously so excited every time a new chapter comes out. I think EVERYONE should be on this -- it has heart, depth, and so much whimsy. Lovingly drawn, and beautifully paced too! It's so perfect for young adults who loved shonen as teens, or who still love it but know they're not the protagonist's age anymore.
Kana, the protagonist here, is fresh out of college and struggling to find work. When she does find it, she has to work to make it fit, and to find a space where she can grow and flourish. It's beautifully and powerfully written, with layered storytelling and lots of character development. She changes her opinions a lot, and has the grace to do that in a very kind story. This is clearly written by someone who loves magical girls, and has put EFFORT into creating an exciting and convincing world.
It's so fun, I cannot stress this enough. Every character is perfectly placed, telling stories upon stories with just a couple of panels. I love all of the cast so far, even the hashtag evil guys, because they're so funny and essential to the story -- of course a magical girl industry would cause a boom in capitalism and parasocial celebrity relations. I'm so grateful that Magilumiere actually explicitly talks about that too! This is what everyone wanted BNHA to be. Kana's coworkers are incredible: there's all the stereotypes but very carefully considered. I think that's the real success of this story: like all good comedies, it knows the genre it is working with, because it loves that genre.
Man, what a triumph. Looking forward to seeing this story take off (because it will. I have that much faith.)
