I definitely liked this story a lot, loved the main character and the supporting cast that had such depth to them. However, the ending wasn’t satisfying in the least and I couldn’t understand why
Elysian had to die.
Like Ragi said, who cares about destinies and eras and such?
What was the need to die so that people can accept a king without divine power? His existence doesn’t necessarily have to deny that. And in any case dying without even attempting to find out otherwise just seems premature.
It seemed like a huge sacrifice was made out of cowardice and not wanting to confront the fact that maybe everything you’ve lived for was for nothing at all. But if that’s the case why not have the courage to live with regrets and start anew? That’s exactly what April did so I can’t see why it can’t be the same for him. And anyways all those regrets aren’t completely pointless if you lived trying to protect those you loved.
! Elysian wanted to pass away in peace because he was tired. I think truly at the forefront of his mind too was the flimsy excuse that other people could live more easily if he was dead as a supporting reason. I just don’t think that any person should give themselves “a conclusion for themselves” by ending their life after having lived for everyone else. No, you make a conclusion for yourself by living.
My other gripe with the ending was that I wanted to see April truly established in her life. And even though she came to terms with her emotions which was nice to see, I wanted to see her accomplish her goals goddamnit. I don’t care if the author left it there to imagine how her life might be because she’ll always be on a journey. I want a proper ending. And also some more time to develop the relationship between her and Ragi. There were hints that Ragi came to care for her like when he
cast the spell in the Emperor’s room so that nobody would die, including April even though he’d made it clear to her that he would kill her if Avril posed a threat and Elysian had already said that he probably wouldn’t go through with it.
But I really wanted to see him have a soft spot for her!! I know he’s grumpy and he did take good care of her but still :’(
I appreciate how much April has grown and finding where things went twisted in Elysian’s past. These were of course what were done really well in the story.
But why is there a romance tag lmao. There might have been a wedding but we didn’t even see the groom’s face. And absolutely nothing came of
Elysian and Lyla seeing as he was too dead to continue that.
