Wow. What a rollercoaster of a ride. I binge read this in 2 days (and that was me taking my sweet time) and it is so much to process, even now. Lots to unpack.
First, I have to say I'm surprised at the low ratings here. I was hooked onto this series from the start, and the author did an amazing job keeping me on edge with the mystery and suspense throughout. It wasn't confusing in the least bit -- the storytelling is thorough, and everything gets answered slowly and revealed in the end. What folks may be disliking is the way the plot and characters were unveiled in an obscure, not-so-straightforward way -- you have to really THINK and interpret it yourself from observing the subtle expressions and depictions of the scenes and characters. And that's GOOD. You know it's a masterpiece when the author gets you to really think and feel. A lot of things are not explicitly explained or told to us readers, but we have to infer and make judgement ourselves.
Secondly! The plot itself, ugh. So yes, this series is quite dark and everyone is basically psychopathic and/or sociopathic except for a select few, but the plot really just makes you reflect so much.
I guess my biggest beef with this series is that everything happened but the ending seemed so anticlimactic, as if nothing really happened in the first place. Like what was the point really? Hmm... Still trying to process and understand it myself.
There are a few other holes and things that don't make it absolutely perfect, but anyway it's still good to me. Art is so amazing too. 10 out of 10!
