Description

Murdered in cold blood, Emperor Levenoad of Strahss is reincarnated as a slave named Ray in the enemy empire of El Fascher! To make matters worse, he's caught the eye of the emperor, Jiskar, and gets dragged off to the palace as his concubine. In order to escape, Ray must spread his legs for Jiskar in order to win his favor, all while carefully avoiding the jealous, power-hungry empress and crown prince who will do anything to tear him down. More importantly, he must figure out who killed him in his past life...and why. Unfortunately, none of this will prove to be easy with guards at his side 24/7 and his feet in shackles. Very good story and characters, but weak on the romance/smex part

Finally an uke I liked! FINALLY! Too bad IMHO the thin part of this manhwa is the relationship between uke and seme. Everything else was actually above average, the story, the setup, the conflict, the mystery. But I didn't feel the chemistry between the leads. The seme also didn't get the screentime he deserver. All of his background story, his relationship with his wives and concubines, his children, how he got to the throne - it was all taken in too lightly and not explained properly. and There was so much potential to develop this into a compelling, highly tense situation. The keep more of the emphasis on the uke, which is fine, but I would have preferred it 50/50.

Uke is something else. Although they do "cramp" his character at a few points for the story's sake (especially when he goes berserk and almost kills the seme, that was out of character for such a calculated guy as him), he kicked ass and was cool as heck. I loved him! After so many bland, pushover, boring ukes, he's like a breath of fresh air! The fact that he's far from perfect makes him an even more intriguing char! The whole backstory about who killed him and the contract between his new and old lives were also well handled.

But as I said, the sizzling heat between the uke and the seme was weak here, and for this reasons, I don't think this is ever going to be a classic. Too bad, just when one hopes it will be a full package, a vital part is missing, but still worth the read.

So...like a dumbass I went and bought the novel.

I knew this was going to hurt but daaaaaamn. I was not prepared for the ending. As it is, I reject the canon ending. It does not exist. It's not fact in my delusional mind. I desperately wish the webtoon will NOT have the same ending. If it does I'm going to write fanfics, I tell ya. ALL the fanfics, God damnit. 😌 ! There's some absolutely bullshit excuse that Ray, after a whole lotta drama and death and excitement, becomes the Emperor of Strahss again. Jiskar stays emperor of El Fascher. They get a Bittersweet Ever After. So, yes, Ray, at novel's end will "cheat" on Jiskar because he will "have" to have children to continue his fake lineage on the Strahss throne.

Remember, Levnoad, reincarnated in his current body as Ray the slave is not in any way, whether it's blood or political or even nationalistically, related to the Strahss Imperial family.

If the author really wanted to be "realistic", as reviewers claim, the author could have STILL made Ray the Emperor of Strahss withOUT making him "cheat". Even if Jiskar also understands why Ray is doing it. (Actually, I don't know about this "understanding".) All Ray has to do is keep the children of his predecessor's as Heir. Those kids actually have the Imperial Strahss bloodline.

That way, even if he has to bring in an Empress, he won't have to touch her because there's already viable heirs but naaaaah, gotta include "unfaithfulness" and separation (even if they try to find time to meet and do lovers-type shit via a Mage portal that cuts travel time by a fuckton, it's not the same) in this to be angst filled porn to the very end. I'm extremely angry over this. Just so fucking disappointed.😭
