Funny manga and compact read, but kind of confused by some of the comments here...

Okay, let's clear this up...the whole point of this manga, told primarily through the little sister's eyes, is that the older sister is rude, insensitive, spoiled, two-faced, and lazy. That's established early on and it's the through line of the manga...to the point where the little sister is going out of her way to make sure the older sister's fiance doesn't figure out her sister's true character until after the older sister has moved out of the house (the little sister's plan was to get her big sis out of her life by marrying her off). There shouldn't be any confusion about the older sister's personality on paper.

That said, the humor comes from the fact that lives are somehow improved from this behavior.

It's a comedy of contrasts - just when you think her actions will finally come back to haunt her, they don't. Quite the contrary, they make her out to be an "ally of justice." The little sister serves as an audience surrogate going "wtf?!" at every turn, lol. Likewise, you can argue there is some social commentary here about either 1) how people who are themselves without inhibition manage to live blissfully and being yourself/honest to yourself can make other lives better, or 2) how rotten, selfish people manage to land on their feet while the good suffer. Personally, I don't think there is a social message in this but the sister isn't meant to be a good guy to the reader, lol. I found the manga to be funny though and definitely recommend it to josei gag manga fans.

The concept of this manga is neat, and I did love the humor at times.

However, the story feels incredibly dated despite being from 2004. Specifically, it's all well and good to have the petty scold of an elder sister reform people by way of insults - the ends justify the means, right? Well, not really. But more to the point, if you don't share the politics of the author, then you're just left with a mean character who insults people and thereby magically changes their behavior for the better. For instance, one chapter features an overworked and stressed mother who is reformed after she overhears the elder sister call this "weakness", that it's all a matter of mindset, and that "others have it worse". That's just incomprehensibly dated.

Authors would do well not to unnecessarily put politics into their stories, lest their stories become outdated before they're even finished.

The story is also episodic and ends abruptly at some point, just like this review.

Funny story narrated by a girl coping with her all-powerful sister whose nasty acts coincidentally result in positive side effects that make her beloved by everyone. It’s a light comedy and there’s no significant character or relationship growth, either between the MC and her sister or the MC and her love interest. Though the main subject of the manga was how the sister interacted with people, the ending felt abrupt because the ongoing themes relating to the MC were never resolved. I agree with the last reviewer that some of the chapters felt dated (for instance, one suggests that wearing conservative clothes prevents sexual harassment). I filed that away in ‘different culture/year’ and was still able to enjoy the manga.

I really enjoy this series: It's funny, hectic and straight-faced crazy. The contrast personalities between the two sisters are hilarious and created plenty of hilarities thus far.

By intention, the older sister "the ally of justice" unintentionally. She is seen to have indirectly influenced people to improve and strive to be better or even change their mindset about certain issues in life (i.e. overworking, patience, manners, social behaviours, etc.); Afterward their lives change 180 degree around and most of the time become better.
The little sister also benefits from these although she endured hells from her older sister (from our reader perspectives, the older sister is self-center and cares about no one, even her husband and child, but herself; yet always somehow extremely fortunate and gets everything she demands).

The PROBLEMS arise when some of these indirect "supports", "encouragements" with some being "insults" and downright "bad manners" and "insensitive behaviours" are deeply ingrained as perceived "acceptable behaviours" in society (here Japan, might apply to many other Asian countries).
Personally, these problems are dated and backward and many are contractions and deeply rooted in a patriarch mindset with little progression for women developments.
The moment I realised these outdated ideas - being pushed by the older sister character and author - are no longer tolerable is in chapter 22: a new mother is having absolute hell by-herself trying to take care of her newborn daughter and home without any helping from anyone (be reminded that the older sister stays at her parents home and get her parents and sister to take care of her own baby) while her husband works. By no mean should I weight who is better, who gets it fair, because it's due to personal circumstances. And if you've ever taken care of a newborn baby by yourself or witnessed/supported such guardians everyday, would you have the empathy towards them.
Here, what the new mother needs is sympathy. Instead she got concerning eyes from her circle of friends and downright scorns - even indirect abusive comments - from a stranger/the ally of justice/the older sister.
Then, with those little words of confinement and domestication that entrapped the Japanese/Eastern ideals of a mother and woman, she returns home, fixes herself miraculously by some means no one knows: the house is cleaned, the meals are great, and she suddenly wanted another baby!

I feel absolutely sorry and horrified at this point.

At the same time, I understand that this is way back (2000s circa). Still, I can't shake off how much of a sexist and bully this manga is.

I hope this might be sarcasm or a sort of social commentary work. Or at least provide some insights and internal contexts or personal back stories so we can shed some lights into such an antagonistic character of the older sister. Maybe that would explain her view of the world, and make senses of the person she is to make her less terrible.

One of a kind. Love it.
Simple, really funny, good characters.

The older sister is selfish and arrogant, but smart and I just love how eveything goes her way.
The younger sister is quite annoying, her appearances are only good If her male friend is there.

The art, while clean, is not the most beautiful but it suits every character

the older sister is too despicable that it's not even funny. Instead i find her pretty annoying and wait for her FALL. It's good that her husband couldn't put up with her now so it become more realistic. Or else i'll think, how can u be so awful and get away just like that! no fair!

This is a very unusual manga with an unusual main character: An evil sister who is seen by all as the ally of justice!!

While other manga usually make the main character into some saint in disguise who is, in the end, misunderstood, this girl is truly a cold-blooded demon through and through ha ha ha ha

Somehow, the mangaka reveals the tale of the sisters in a hilariously enjoyable manner!
I greatly recommend reading this.!

Its the funniest Josei that I've ever read, and believe me I've read quite a bit of those. The manga is better than the Drama adaptation, even though both are amazing. There is romance here too, and its realistic and sweet. There is much focus on Youko and her sister, which has me on my fours, rolling with laughter.
I daresay there isnt anyone who would dislike this series one bit.

Unique and brilliantly funny, this is a great read if you want some good comedy. Intriguing and hilarious.
I could so see this be a classic many years from now. They don't make much manga like this.
And oh, this reads really quickly, might be wise to take your time to enjoy it.
