Description

Read the manga and watch the J-Drama adaption too ^^

My interest wasn't initially captured by this series until I saw the live action J-Drama version which was just excellent. The manga version suffers - especially in the beginning - from vague/unclear writing, direction, and characters. For example, the teacher Haiba Jin is called a cripple, loser, pathetic, ect... but in volume one he looks and acts like a shoujo prince so it doesn't make any sense. The black comedy moments seem weirdly out of place at first in what otherwise appears to be a fairly tame and run-of-the-mill shoujo series.

After I watched the J-Drama, however, I got a better handle on the characters and loved them. Haiba Jin was just hilarious as a low-paid public servant who blows his meager salary on mobile games while brazenly abusing his position to sexually harass the FL. I have never seen a character like this before and the actor Hashimoto Ryo did an amazing job bringing him to life.

So wait, is it even worth reading the manga? Yes! When I circled back and read the manga again I found out the later volumes get much better and I got completely absorbed in reading this story. In retrospect, I think the first few volumes might have been over-censored by an editor which is why they felt so choppy. One point in favor of this theory is the original character designs. The manga-ka initially wanted Haiba Jin to be a shabby middle-aged man with a scraggly beard, which makes sense given his personality. When I saw those character designs everything fell into place. In the later volumes the manga-ka seems like she got a freer hand and commits fully to the dark comedy and sexual harassment x romance which yields great results. The manga even has a very good and satisfying ending, so it's well worth reading despite some foibles along the way.

While it starts off dark, it still has a dark tone, but the interactions between mc and femc make me cringe.

It makes me cringe because this is a teacher and this is a student. While i do love age gap romances, this one feels more predatory than sweet. Like at first the femc did not like him, she just viewed him as any other person, however after the mc does some things that cross some lines, example being able to tell her bust size with his eyes, making some sensual comments about her, etc. These feel like grooming tbh, like he will whisper sweet nothings to her, increase the amount of physical touching he has with her, until she fools herself into believing that she is in love with him.

Not only that but there are also other characters who fall in love with femc

In all honestly, this feels like a hentai, but instead, the mc is a women and their harem consists of males, and instead of sex scenes, we get scenes that are very extreme in some aspects.

One comment said something about dengaki daisy, i would somewhat agree with that, like the tone is somewhat similar, but in both mangas, the mc feels less like a love interest but more of some predator

While i love age gap romances, when the mc is older and trying to put the moves on a younger girl with the purpose of getting into a relationship with the intent later becomeing to sleep with them or something, i just find it gross.

Manga where the mc just does their daily life and the female mc notice the things mc does and slowly finds him to be a good compangnion are the mangas i like (example being Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (After the rain) best age gap manga i have read currently)

i do enjoy a good teacher x student relationship stories. The teacher is kind of a handsome loser and i enjoy that. You can't tell whether he's trying to be funny or if he's really a lecher which keeps the story interesting. our heroine is pretty gloomy but she has a good head on her shoulder. the story does talk about death a lot but the side characters bring an additional lightness to the story. it reminds me a little of Dengaki Daisy by being able to address dark content and also make it funny. it also brakes the fourth wall which makes you feel like the characters are being developed in the story with you. i look forward to seeing how it progresses.

Very nice art but I find the story a little questionable
I think the teacher kind of crosses some lines with the student. Like he doesn’t act like a teacher at all. Also, I wonder about her suicidal ideation...it isn’t made light of, but it kinda makes me feel weird
