Description

Jeongmin is a loner in high school being bullied by the Queen Bee, Juhyeon. The two were friends in elementary school before their friendship ended because of Juhyeon’s demand that Jeongmin should only be friends with her. Juhyeon uses this “betrayal” to fuel the classmates' insults and isolate Jeongmin in misery. Jeongmin has only one way to escape, through lucid dreams. One day, a mysterious man enters her dreams and offers to help her get revenge on Juhyeon…

Its toxic. Korean bullying is real bad in real life. This story puts toxic & manipulative people on the forefront. I am emabarrassed for them even though they all petty and overly reliant on conceived social hierarchy. FL is an emotional wreck but so is everyone else. Can't look away from a traincrash.

...I love revenge stories but I have zero interest in the idol industry or high school settings.

Don't get me wrong; I fucking love K-pop, Mando-and Canto-pop, and even J-pop is rather tolerable 😩 BUT the only times I care about the backround/behind the scenes stuff is when real life entertainers are being abused by their labels (and hopefully they manage to get away/get awarded the entire damn bank) and/or insane fan encounters that ends up fucking the rest of us over.

gorgeous art.
ML is much of a red flag... but we're wearing rose-tinted glasses.

as of January 2025: It's enjoyable to an extent though I felt like there were some storylines that were unnecessary just to drag the plot.

overall, i enjoyed it. just not much during the first half of the story.

Toxic ppl in toxic relationships

Tbh, everyone in this story is toxic to some degree. Even the ppl who start out okay at first (our MC, for example) end up being toxic and all the relationships should be wearing big red flags. But this story shows the type of drama you can't turn away from once you start reading.

The story and plot is well told and you're really able to understand (if not actually sympathize with) how everyone in the main cast got to where they end up being. And while the tone of the story definitely takes a more cynical stance on the operations of ppl and relationships in general, I find the author's points on community and society rather interesting. It's nice how the author shows nobody is completely in the right or completely good, so it's mostly up to the readers to determine how to feel abt some of these characters and situations (tho, there are some characters/actions that are also clearly completely wrong). For me, I just want everyone to get away from each other and get therapy (but that's after I can see how the MC ends up dealing with these psychos around her).

Tho, if I'm to be more technical, the ML is basically checkmarking all typical signs of sociopathy. Behavior influenced by past trauma. Tendency towards violence and rage. Attachment to a single person but highly antisocial. Erratic and impulsive behavior. Unable to keep a job (or isn't trying to get a job after the whole mess he dealt with as an idol trainee, and he isn't going to school--supports himself thru means of threatening his former agency of public sucde). Lack of remorse/guilt towards others (besides the MC, but only to a certain extent and not enough to stop--seemingly).

The mystical element, while it does play a key factor to the story's plot, isn't a main focus or highlight for the story, so don't expect to get too much into the magic/supernatural stuff if that's what interests you. The focus is mostly on the relationships between the characters and how they develop as ppl themselves (whether better or worse) when interacting with each other.

Rec for ppl who love high school drama (esp kdrama-type drama).
