Description

I binge read this when I should've been studying until I slept. Under such circumstances I have a habit of reading a series a lot longer than I should be when I'm really not enjoying it until I fall asleep and snap out of it.
This was one such case.

This story is stupid.

The 'central mystery' feels very arbitrarily done. The main character's motivation should be believable from a certain point-of-view, and yet I don't end up believing it. The execution was poor.
The barriers to him solving the mystery also feel incredibly arbitrary. By arbitrary I mean it's basically 'You can't solve this mystery because then the plot won't happen. Instead you have to do these unspecified number of plot fights and then maybe you will be allowed to solve it.' I'm not joking or exaggerating. That's exactly the premise of the 'plot' driving the series before we get a [i[bit[/i] more info which just raises more questions about the world.

The protagonist's power level is also stupid. We're supposed to believe that he's created his own form of martial arts by copying what he read in fantasy novels and manga and anime. Literally, that's what his power is based on.
And it gets to the point where one morning he reads a story in the morning where there's a punch that puts energy into the form of a dragon and then that evening he thinks that's cool and so does it on his first try. wtf is happening here?? How am I supposed to believe he can both do this (after JUST 17 years of training which is stupid on its own) but can't understand other martial arts at all at a high level? How am I supposed to believe that Earth doesn't have a million martial artists with this level of skill already when there are practitioners who have studied for decades longer with some practices millennia old?

And, finally, this is stupid because the protagonist will get a power-up each fight whenever he faces someone stronger than him. And then win. To be clear, I'm not talking about training arcs. I mean mid-battle he will be losing and then he will miraculously understand something new and develop a new technique and win.

So...yeah. It's stupid.

Oh, and there's another stupid thing about one of the more recent antagonists, but that'd be a spoiler.

I did like his disciple. That was funny and cool and tragic, seeing what negative effects a bad influence at the right time can do to a child.

And the

second disciple seems potentially interesting, too.

3/10 cos it has some (rare) laughs and interesting idea with the disciple.

edit: I skipped ahead 90 chapters randomly. Turns out there's a rape done by two of the more amoral characters (sex with an enthusiastic drunk person). But it was censored from the official English release on webtoons.com after the backlash from the English readers. So, that's a thing

the MC is la chancla, the sidekick is a meme about shonen manhwa/manhua MLs being so insanely OP they can schlub through bringing a booger to a gunfight and somehow win everything including the new car and commemorative coin set. if you can understand the previous comment you might also laugh at this hot garbage. kinda hope they keep making it.

Enjoyable series

It's clearly a series that's riding the solo leveling wave but it's not necessarily bad. The MCs personality can be hit or miss but I enjoy it. Story isn't its strong point since it does have a typical tower and dungeon break manhwa story. If you come in expecting a lot then you'll be disappointed but it's enjoyable as a light hearted series.
