Description

Life isn’t sweet... Asaoka Yuuri, a senior in university, has failed for the 49th time in job hunting. During an exam at the 50th company, which should be a commemoration for her, she came to know Manabe Ryouji, a famous guy at her university. The first impression was horrible. Is is a story I only need to read once. The emotions were good, the romantic relationship of the two main characters was intriguing, there was growth and difficulties. It has it all for the main character the girl. It was just good, in a way. There should have been more growth for other characters as well as more backstory but for what it was like I said it was good it was meant to show the life of a girl going though college trying to make a living coincidently finding love. The story with stay as read.

She does cry a lot but

As someone comment before, some of them are justified.
Anyway, this manga has a lot of personality development... for the girl only. It speaks to its mainly female readers about the difficulties of life (focusing on finding jobs), and how we can use our failures to build our success. The romantic plot is pretty cute. Who doesn't love a perfect prince on a white horse? The guy has very little development: in the beginning, he is perfect; at the end, he is perfect but with extra lovin'. If you get annoy easily by people who cry a lot then this manga might not be for you, but aside from that, it is a cute, short manga.

I'm not going to review the manga, but I do want to say, in response to some comments below, that I do not think that the MC is a weak crybaby. While she does cry a lot in the manga, I think she has a good reasons for it. And when she does behave weakly or cry, she acknowledges it and seeks to move on with a more positive attitude, something which takes strength of character.

As for the good reasons she has to cry frequently:

The first reason is that she is insecure in her identity (which develops as the manga continues) and doesn't know what she wants from life. She feels inferior to others because of it. A lack of confidence can be very stressful.

The second reason is that she has failed a HUGE number of times at job interviews. I think (?) some commenter mentioned that she didn't fail enough to justify feeling sad about it, but I would personally be very discouraged if I was unsuccessful at 50--yes fifty job interviews, for goodness' sake.

The third reason is brought up in Volume 2, Chapter 8 where she apologizes to someone

the ex girlfriend for crying, "I'm sorry, but I'm not very emotionally stable right now." And the girl she is talking to responds (to paraphrase): ", I felt the same way when I was a senior." It's a stressful time of life (not only, as mentioned in the point above because of job interviews, but because of the prospect of entering the "real world" as an adult.)

The fourth reason is that she loves a guy that she does not think could possibly love her. Unrequited love can be very painful.

And the fifth reason is simply that I think she is a sensitive person, which can be a lovely trait. (The fact that she is so moved by children's books tells me this as well as the fact that she is a literature major). Also, she loves the MC so much that she cries about it. I think that's beautiful.

This comment is probably too lengthy, but I felt the need to post it because I really like this manga and would hate for anyone to skip it because they think the lead might be annoying (and she isn't, to me anyway).

Unbearable heroine

God I despise this type of heroine! Shallow, meek, dumb, crybaby, urrgh.. Her straightforwardness couldn't cover all those irritating acts, there's a limit to how "unique" a girl's character can be to attract a guy

Adorable read & finally a true campus feel!

Yes, it's one of my favs, so maybe I might be a little soft on this Manga, but - It's a rare one. Let's start off with the drawing style of YOSHINO Aki. It's a simple style, but having it's charming points in the soft facial expressions and clear designs. The backgrounds are matching, not captivating too much of the readers attention and the panels are placed in a comfortable way.

This being said, the storyline is catchy & not too far from reality. Considering how few stories are set on campus & bringing in graduate students, it's a rare gem for rather "mature readers" (Maybe being in the same situation or remembering it, etc.). One can easily relate to the feelings of seniors in university, which have trouble to focus on job hunting and taking the next steps in life, while there are still the lingering feelings of a student coming up. It's interesting to see, how the situations bring development and still finish up, what the author has started before.

The characters are charming, having their quirks and keep on showing even their weak points (e.g. the female leads crybaby nature or the male leads decisive nature). They are realistic, not too tacky clinging on their emotions and losing interest in the developments of their work life ahead. That's nice to see, so - For me this is a story to spend some quality time with & even to re-read once in a while. ^^

A Nice Feeling.

This manga was a breath of fresh air. I really think I'm graduating from shoujo to josei because these types of mangas just leave me with a nice, cozy, satisfied feeling.

Yuuri is such a great heroine. Sure, she's a bit clumsy, whiny and has those shoujo-type characteristics, but she has has redeeming qualities as well. What I love most about her is how she grows which you probably won't realize until Manabe points it out and you think "wow, she really has changed." It was very subtle, but amazingly executed. She becomes an amazing girl.

I also love love LOVE Manabe. He's the ideal guy! He's smart, competent, popular, realistic, a bit of a tease, but kind. He's not a playboy, he's clearly always liked Yuuri (I love how he's so captivated by her), he watches over her, shows her a little tough love, but is always there when she needs someone to pick her up after she falls.

He's brilliant and I think he and Yuuri have a top future ahead. They're a perfect duo! I am curious as to what HE really wanted in life, but I'm sure he'll figure it out and Yuuri will be there at his side.
Truly an awesome and quick read. There needs to be more stories like this. Not too much drama, not over-dramatic, not tons of bickering and acting like the world is going to end. Nothing over the top and soap opera-ish.

A simple slice of life with some refreshing romance is a recipe for a great manga. And I think this one nailed it 😀

This story would have been awesome if the female lead doesn't cry in every freaking chapter. I mean, I don't mind some weakness but constant weakness gets on my nerves! Sad? She cries. Happy? She cries. Jealous? She cries. Goddamit woman, get some freaking backbone!

Sweet story but mediocre at best, but it's still a sweet read. Plot is simply, but enough to be interesting. Characters are believable and emotions are not exaggerated which is really refreshing! especially if you have read many shoujos with overly emotional characters.

perfect manga

finally found something i can call a perfect romance manga. Why? because, the female lead is pretty, no plot elements that annoys me, and most importantly, it passed my standards for a "sweet romance manga". i wish there'd be more titles like this one.

I will always compare to this manga what others titles have made a mistake on. It will be a good standard, for judging other titles, for this is what i consider a "perfect manga"

hmm let me expound more on those plot elements that annoys me.

i am a shounen harem romance fan. i love bishoujos loving that 1 guy, while feeling jealous because of other girls. On the other hand, i hate the reverse, 1 girl, and many guys falling in love. Seeing male characters especially bishounens, take up that precious page in the manga just so the main male lead would feel jealous is a total waste of my time. most shoujo/josei esp shoujo always have this development that a random extra guy gets introduced a certain chapter X and all of a sudden has feelings for main girl and tries to steal her away from main male lead. What's amazing in this manga is, even if it's Josei, no random guy gets introduced, and there's nothing for me to be annoyed at. There are also no rape or sexual abuse plot elements as if it's a good thing to always have them in romance stories just to add drama, not to mention that the subject of such plot devices are always good-looking girls.

I've re-read this particular manga more than any other josei, and while I can't say exactly what it is about this one that gets to me, I just know it always leaves such a sweet feeling behind..

I always admire Yoshino Aki's ability to show character through her drawings. Ryouji's firm self-confidence is just as clear in the way he stands, sits, and his facial expressions, as in what he says. And on top of that the author has also given him a good sense of humour (including the ability to be amused at himself), and hints of an almost old-world code of gentlemanly behaviour.

The heroine does cry often, but I never found her annoying. She starts out by acknowledging her own inferiority complex, and is aware that she is the cause of her own problems - and by the end of the manga manages to strengthen her own backbone, and become confident in herself.

So I like it, and I hope others will give it a shot, at least.
