I really liked Andy x Jesse and the trope of accidental confessions, and I really wish there were more of those moments and less of the dad and school kid which took up like half the series. Like the other person said, I thought it was really funny and made good situations when the kid thought the dad was jesse’s brother and it seemed like an unrequited love, but the it turned kinda into an age gap romance which is just like, ..yikes, not my thing. It would have been better if it stayed unrequited or if the story mostly focused on Andy x jesse.
Edit: I am not a fan of the second couple. The dynamic is that of the mc boyfriend's dad (Joel) and the mc's school-aged friend (Chase). I thought the dynamic was played for jokes at first since Chase thought Joel was an older brother, but then the author completely dives headfirst into the drama. It was unexpected, because there were explicit scenes of the characters being against the predatory practices of teacher-student relationships in the story. And current developments seem against what the story stood for in the beginning.
Also Joel is a bad father and a bad love interest. The characters even pointed out to him multiple times that he spends more time with Chase than his own son. Yet he is also stringing Chase along by flip-flopping between his romantic interest in Chase and wanting to be a good parental figure. I understand it is a good source of drama, but it was just not the type of drama I was expecting when I first started reading this story. I was expecting Andy x Jesse shenanigans. Hopefully there is a great development in the works, because the Andy x Jesse scenes are getting scarce.
It starts off super cliche with the main character (Andy) getting bullied then somehow dating the main lead (Jesse), who is the top dog of the school. But it soon diverges from that cliche into something unique and comedic while still managing to be relateable and serious when it needs to be. This story delves into misunderstandings of all different kinds and how words and actions are what really define a person’s character. It explores multiple familial situations, the varying kinds of love, and how each character can react differently to the same scenario. As an added bonus, each character has a distinct personality.
Did I mention this story was hilarious? Because it is HILARIOUS, and the art conveys that humor well through facial expressions and body language of the characters. However, it is inconsistent at times. The newest chapter 29 showed an old character with a new hairstyle, and I thought it was an entirely new character for a second lmao. But the art has its own charm and sets this story apart. Plus the author is great at drawing abs.
