Sweet but also disturbing

This story is a bit sweet but also disturbing when you think about it. Like for instance while another reviewer on here mentioned that Meguro's ex-bf was a good guy, you have to take into context that the background story is that the ex-bf is someone at around 20+ who was tutoring Meguro when she was I believe mentioned to be 12-14, he then seemingly groomed her and then slept with her and made her his gf but he was only ever interested in her body and pretty much tells her that and that she should go on to find someone who can love her. She then goes on to try and find someone to love but because of her ex-bf teaching her that snu snu is the way to feel love she sleeps with anyone asking her out and get's known as the "easy girl" anyone can sleep with by simply asking her out. On a side note the ex-bf from his own mouth has kept doing the same thing for years after this seducing the girls he tutor and turn them into his "friends with benefits" before dumping them, while it's also mentioned the reason she's sleeping around and accepting every guy who asks her out is because of what the ex-bf told her to do which she has kept doing.

In comes the ML Koga who asks her out not really aware of this and then starts a story where Koga pretty much is a shy virgin who tries to have a relationship with Meguro who only really knows how to react in a physical way. The story then mostly revolves around Koga teaching Meguro that there is more to love and a relationship then just snu snu while Koga at the same time is to shy to do anything outside of handholding which is also too lewd for some reason.

As the story progresses I have no idea why but for some reason the pair seem to lose all semblance of free will at times and only follow what others tells them to do.

Spoilers ahead.

When the couple for instance has started to get serious and Meguro decides to get a part time job to buy a gift for Koga she is repeatedly forced by her part time job to work over and over again because they need her so she is unable to even meet Koga or have any kind of relationship because her part time job is forcing her to work.

When a friend tells Meguro that she shouldn't be in a relationship with Koga because she should focus on school instead she shortly after breaks up with Koga. Whats even worse is that shorly before this Koga convinced Meguro to get tutored by her ex-bf and decided to keep his distance to let her focus on studying and then after not seeing her for some time the first thing she does while giving no explanation is to break up with Koga.

She then starts to have an inner monologue where she thinks about how she loves him, wants to be with him forever and bla bla bla but has to focus on studying so they can't be a couple until she finishes school. But she never tells him and instead Koga has to step up and for whatever reason and from nowhere be super confident and tell her he will always love her and wait for her before leaving.

Like I have no idea what the author was thinking when he went with this kind of ending where the bf sends his gf to be with her ex-bf who groomed her when she was young, is said to be the love of her life and then after being with the ex-bf for seemingly weeks he first thing she tells her bf is that they have to break up and gives 0 explanation but for whatever reason the bf just goes all understanding. Maybe I am just insecure or something but this felt like such a NTR plot that came out of nowhere but again for whatever reason the bf turns into a mind reader that is also somehow super confident even though he was seemingly insecure asking the ex-bf to help her and be with her alone but then when she finally returns and instantly breaks up with him it's a-okey!

No way Meguro isn't asexual, right?

It's been a small trend of these manga settings where it pairs a girl who sleeps around a lot (or is rumored to) with an innocent virgin guy, plotting out a story where the guy has the girl fall in love with him because he treats her with respect and dignity. You can assert these kind of stories as wish fulfillment, trying to answer some insecurities about masculinity or whatever else it'd be, and that can exist as it is for what it is. Though most of the time you'd find that the girl doesn't feel like she's necessarily believable in a sense? Like she's not given enough background to make sense or even validate her values, and have it align to her past of having a high body count; Especially if you don't want to take the leap of faith. While that aspect doesn't really matter in the intent of wish fulfillment, it's definitely hard to have the story be anything but trashy.

Meguro is an interesting case, where after catching up to date with the manga at chapter 66 as of now, I honestly can find her to be believable. Because over time I can't help but find Meguro to be asexual, which I think answers a lot of questions towards her character, and is why the character/relationship dynamic works between her and Koga. It makes sense why she seems to only care about the romantic and emotional connection with someone, and why she doesn't ever seem to have any interest in sex. Her having a bunch of relationships, usually involving sex, is answered to it being a means to an end of developing emotional connection. The story does a lot to build her as a character to explain why she nonchalantly accepts Koga's confession and goes out with him. And it as well makes the effort to display how she views and navigates the world.

The main character, Makoto Koga, is very much so your formulaic timid and unconfident male. Reacts like a virgin when the situation can escalate to anything sexual, sometimes a doormat, afraid to speak up and whatnot. He has a pure, good-natured heart full of love for Meguro, which is pretty much all she wants. His emotional intelligence is his best point, which honestly is what carries him through the story along with his relationship with Meguro. The fact that he is able to properly communicate his thoughts and feelings to Meguro and other friends is what progresses the plot too. It's where he finds validation in himself and is able to validate Meguro, as the romance builds to where they both change for the better. He understands that his anxious thoughts hold him back, and actually makes an effort to improve. Though, still has a lot to go in that department lol. Still got the virgin energy too unfortunately.

Lastly, Meguro being asexual (or maybe demisexual?) is a head canon where I cannot be convinced otherwise. I can't see how she isn't. With how the story talks and introduces the opposite end about aromantic characters too, it pushes more for validating different forms of love and affection than it does try and play wish fulfillment. Koga and Meguro are trying to find a happiness that they can achieve together, trying their best to support and root for each other. Peak relationship goals, and overall a sweet read cause of it. No hardcore drama either.

Update: as the series takes its final breaths of life, the writing quality has nosedived so much that it ruins everything it has built up. a lot of half baked melodrama that amounts up to nothing that really makes it hard to ever recommend this anyone anymore.

My take of this manga

The female mc is like a robot, like it feels like she has never been treated properly before, but when you look at

the flashback with her previosu boyfriend, he is not a dick, u can tell he was a good guy, in fact, he even tells her that if simething were to happen to him which would force them to go there seperate ways, he tells her to find someone that would be able to treat her with as much love as he did, in the flashback, the femc says that she took those words to heart, and thats why she decided to go with the mc, as he was not after her body, even though she told him that she is not a virgin, he just wants to builld a connection with her.

Baiscally this feels like the manga about the robot wife and dude, but in that manga, it was underatandable, and rather enjoyable with her being emotionless because in that manga, she is a robot.
Here the girl is literally like a husk, nothing exists to her, she always go along with whatever people say, when she given a choice ,she doesnt want to choose as it scares her. While she does think it does, there is no hint of emotion on her face or any suttle cues which says that this situation is unconfortqble.

The male mc is a beta. One of the stereotypes of these mangas that i hate is whenever a boy goes into their girlfrie ds room, they are on high alert, they think that "OH NO, IM IN MY GIRLFRIENDS ROOM/SHE IS IN MY ROOM, WHAT IF WE DO SOMETHING NAUGHTY TOGETHER, NOOOOOO"
I hate it when protags overexaggerat their girlfriends coming to their rooms or they go to their rooms. Like bro, grow a back bone, she is your girlfriend, dont start thinking about fantasies. She is just in your room/you are in her room, there nothing sexual about that, you are just vibing with each other

I finished reading up to 80, long story short, if you like the cliches in romance, such as callong you gf after their shower and being a fucking virgin thinking about OH MAH GAWD SHE GOT OUT THE SHOWER THATS SO FUCKING HAWT, this manga is for you,

Honestly there are better romance stories out theire with much more well written characters, i cant name any atm, but i can tell you that this manga is filled with cliches that occur whenever romance is involved between a girl and a boy.

I held back my judgement for this manga but the recent development made me appreciate how the society is such a hypocrite. Do we judge a human/woman based on their past? I mean yes, it will take alot of acceptance to read this manga if your used to FMC's being pure. But what is purity anyway? I love how the MC maybe a beta yet he's a DECENT human person. He was able to bring hope to FMC. I hope that the author give us such an ending for both of them.

You get the feeling, with the way it starts, that it's going to be dark and angsty, but it sure doesn't turn out that way. So far, very charming.
