My chaps

Chap 86

I really like the 120 chapters, like 126, cause they focus on the Shiho and flesh their character out even more. Which is nice
Chapter 127, 128 are great examples

I really like the 140 chapters they flesh out the boy character like alot, i like how he used to be a deliquent but now is honest and kind

140,141

Ok honestly, it was good until it reached the last 20 chapters or so, at that point i was skimming, i found myself not enjoying the manga as i read it, i was finding myself focing myself to read it. I finished it, but i cant exactly put my finger on why i did find it trouble some to read. I guess the reason why is it felt that there were some characters who got some chapters for themselves whom i believed didnt. Like for exampl both the glasses boy guys, hopefully u guys know who im talking about, like those two tbh felt very unecessary, heck i dont think the back story was justified for the one glasses guy. Xue to that i felt like it was a pain to read, i wished theyy had more moments of the femc. Cause the different artstyle they used for certain moments were so good. I also wished there was more of shiho, it felt like

her love for mc was foced, dont get me wrong, i like her character as she is hot, and she also likes mc, but i thoiught they were going to balance out her late confession by having more chapters dedicated to her. They could have done more with her character tbh.
actually, now that i think about it, the reason why a bunch of characters are barely fleshed out is there are way too many characters. And the importance they place on one chatacter during a chapter is not enough for me to sympathize with them

I also hated the principal lady. Like goddamn she was annoying. I get it, ur a devil, but she was legitametly being annoying. Even the good deeds she did werent making her less annoying.

Regardless the artstyle is fantastic imo

Treat this manga as in the shounen genre and you will find it enjoyable

I will try to keep my review spoiler free.

Jitsu wa Watashi wa is a shounen comedy manga for most of its length. Romance is just sprinkled here and there (but quite dominantly in the beginning volumes).
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
After the main couples started dating
, the plot then shifted to one of the most shounen cliche in manga history: the ideal high school life, which every characters will try to accomplish. The author even added in more characters just for the sake of this cliche.

Judging by being shounen, this manga is an example of how author-san could write an awesome shounen manga but got held back by the often forced comedy and pandering to romance aspect. And it's good to see author-san works after this manga go for the more pure shounen type.

Judging by being comedy, this manga has its good and bad moments of humor landing perfectly and humor landing flat. It's subjective of course, but for me, the flat humor sometimes made it hard to binge read.

Judging by being romance, this manga is a prime example of how it's not recommended to write romance in such a way, as it is heavily manipulated to happen, even the main couple's one is just a means to achieve "the ideal high school life" cliche towards the end. The only somewhat organic romance development comes from the

student-teacher pair
.

Final thoughts:
Reading this manga looking for romance, you will find it to be 6/10.
Reading this manga looking for a nice shounen comedy story, you will find it to be 8/10.
Therefore, this manga is 7/10 in my book.
I read this in 2022 after having gone through many rom-com series, and for a romance-main reader, this manga is enjoyable at times, but I always keep thinking, author-san would be better off writing a less messy and better story if he could just stop trying to force the romance as it is not his expertise (which is, as I mentioned, shounen).

Good romcom, meh drama

I wasn't really a fan of the dramatic turn the manga took in the last several volumes, in particular:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I could've done without all of the time travel and alien invasion-vs-peaceful coexistence plot elements that were used to wrap up Aizawa's character. It was confusing, self-contradictory, and badly executed in general. The entire Shirayuki arc ("can humans and monsters really coexist?") was unsatisfying as well, particularly the reveal of just how many nonhumans were gathered at the school. The time travel aspect of that arc was likewise frustrating.

I still read it to completion since I was committed, but I could've done without virtually all the story progression. Sure, it was probably a good business decision and kept the manga in publication for probably a dozen or more volumes past where it could've wrapped, but I don't think it was a good artistic decision.

For more than half the chapters is just an okayish monster-girl romcom that works if you enjoy the girls, but adds nothing to it.

Then suddenly the series finds it's own core and fom that point on, start working on it's themes in a great way, gives a excellent denouement for all plot-poits, superb closure for all the characters and a perfect ending.

If you're patient, you'll be rewarded.

One of the worst romcoms i've ever read

I'm a big fan of romance series. and i do generally love them. But if you are reading this for romance don't.

This is not a romance series this is a horribly repetitive comedy series. It's just jokes upon jokes upon jokes. It actually sickening. maybe it was better reading it weekly but binging its just garbage.

The reason i gave it a 2 instead of a 1 is because the art is nice

A study on the uniquefication of clichés...

Jitsu wa Watashi wa is quite a long read, but it's worth it. As some have already stated, it hangs a bit in the middle, but it never gets as bad as some others.
What I noted the most about this series is Masuda's skill at constantly surprising me with the twists and turns of this manga. He employs many clichés and then goes and wrecks them in ways that stay fresh right up until the end.
The ending itself is quite satisfying, yet somehow I can't think of more to say about it.
As far as comedies go, this is one of the best.

Overall a good series, but...

It starts pretty weak, with a MC that cannot keep a secret, tries to confess to class rep but is rejected, then he finds out that one of his classmate is a vampire, and then the crazyness begins! After that the manga follows the "harem route", but a pretty unusual one (thank god!), there are some cliches here and there, but it's still funny along the way.
The problem I have with this manga is the final arc, which is pretty long (I don't remember how many volumes), boring and unnecessairly serious. It's a shame, if it ended in a more linear way I could've enjoyed it much more!

A fine mix of romance, comedy, and sensible drama. The running gags never get old, the story is original with plenty of twists that are difficult to predict, and the characters are likeable. Read if you like your romcoms with lots of comedy, good amounts of romance, and occasional sprinkles of drama.

Also, 10/10 alone for the facial expressions.

Starts fun and all but after 92 chapters it just didn´t feel like it had anything to offer
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The usual self "destroying" harem and by that I mean give MC a harem/+1 girl "super interested" in him and them halfway through change that... Why start a harem if you´re just gonna break it apart... just do normal romance instead XD

This is a great comedy harem manga with actual plot development and interesting enough characters. They don't really stray from their set personalities, but their relationships change over the course of the manga. The art is unique, clean, and fun to look at. It isn't amazing or groundbreaking, but it's enjoyable, hilarious, and worth the read if it's what you're looking for
