Majoring in mathematics, after graduating from university he became a public school teacher for about 5 months from April to August 1983 before switching to drawing manga. He was an assistant of MOTOMIYA Hiroshi (and occasionally to MORITA Jun) on Tenchi o Kurau for about 4 months. He made his debut in 1984 with Be Free!

He fiercely criticized TEZUKA Osamu and FUJIKO F. Fujio, in his book Genjitsu wa Mainā no Naka ni (現実はマイナーの中に; Reality is in the minor). He cited Magical Taruruto-kun is an antithesis to Doraemon. He also listed MIZUKI Shigeru as the mangaka he respect the most.

Among his assistants there were FUJISAWA Tohru, FUJISHIMA Kosuke, YAMADA Reiji, TABATA Yoshiaki, SAKAMOTO Shinichi, ITOU Tai, ICHIKAWA Tomoshige, MATSUURA Tokihiko, NAKAI Kunihiko, Manshuu, KAMITSUKI Manmaru, MORINAGA Masahiro & IKEGAMI Kae.

Other than manga he also writes script for TV drama and directs AV.
