I will stick to seinen(mostly) cuz survival and psychological for kidZ tends to be :
Psychological: Billy Bat or Monster(just read all of Urasawa´s stuff),Death Sweeper,
Kirihito Sanka or Hi no Tori (tezuka´s seinen/serious mangas are just to die for),
Liar Game, Oyasumi Punpun(Inio is good), Soil,
The World Is Mine, Ultra Heaven.

Game of death/Survival:7 Seeds, Dorohedoro, Gantz, Gunslinger Girl,
Jisatsutou, Ookami no Kuchi: Wolfsmund, Terra Formars.
Kiseijuu is the best horror manga(Hitoshi is so great) and Berserk has all as allways .
My ongoing list is filled with stuff that could interest you.
I like heavy themes(Drama: 112/Seinen: 94 my stats say) but you pointed out some of the best magic shop series.
More Pet Shop of Horrors translations where ? Enough for now and hello again.

i would suggest Kami-sama no Iutoori and Apocalypse no Toride. also what guy above me suggested are good reads too kiseijuus one of my favorites

no horrible violence please no heads exploding or anything like when I mean physilogical I mean mind not violence please look at my list better..

the first 4 have vegue amounts of gore, but it's not gratuitous.

oohhh I second Monster it has some serious stuff in there and pretty much no gore; but it is really serious though, so it may be boring if you aren't into reading long plotlines with lots of small interconnected parts~

So basically you aren't looking for a horror series at all...?
even in non-horror manga I wouldn't want to know if the main character dies as that will ruin the ending.

What precisely do you want? Are you just looking for angst in general?

So from mine Urasawa/Tezuka, Liar Game, Oyasumi Punpun, Soil, Ultra Heaven and 7 Seeds remain. The rest hast heavy gore(it is horror) or a lot of leading character deaths(it is horror). From the others: Apocalypse no Toride, Destroy and Revolution, Anne Freaks and Hero (YOU Ling)(does not realy fit). You are giving us tight criteria cuz body horror, game of death, tragedies and so on are out of the question now.
Even the downright perfect Monster kind of runs into problems due to a lot of deaths(bloody headshots show up and the last act, well lets say it is a massacre), torture and experimentation on children.
So are we looking for Death Note. Oh no the ending . See what i mean ?
Your Tokyo Ghoul has a lot of leads dying and heavy off-screen(sort of) gore.
So that is where confusion comes from i guess. The new and great Parasyte anime is not that gory compared to the manga. Try it.
@natsufan001 But sometimes tragedies need to end in catastrophy. If this was a movie side then i could not recommend you to watch the Shinig for example.

I just hate pointless horrible endings I like horror well enough just give physiological and I mean weird things things to with the mind.I really do like some Clamp manga that has those things in it. i just want a interesting story no pointless crap please.
