Billy Bat´s(10/10 as expected) current arc is straight out about the Taliban attacks on 9/11 with Bin Laden and all. Which is a bit eyebrow raising.
Mangaka´s do address tragedies like Fukushima and Urasawa always had balls but a story(or in this case dedicated story arc) to a controversial non japanese topic is not that comment to my knowledge.
Obviously nothing new in american mass media as: http://marvel.wikia.com/Amazing_Spider-Man_Vol_2_36 shows but japan does like to keep things a bit less controversial in a mainstream magazine like Morning.
So does anyone have more anime/manga truly dedicated to a modern non japanese issue that could easily strike controversy. And something more recent then WW2 please.
I think we all have read enough of that scenario.

Edit: Billy is now on hiatus cry btw.:http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-12-21/naoki-uras awa-puts-billy-bat-manga-on-hiatus-until-april/.82456

WoW...that sounds interesting indeed...

Really wanted to read one like that...You see I don't like too old weaponry, if they not something like Katana or weapon of it's league...
Hate to see Characters struggling with Muskets...Wanted see some Barrett, Colt etc. like they use them in Highschool Of The Dead...though the theme in H.O.T.D is different than Billy Bat...

Love H.O.T.D ...now I'm excited to try out this one ~

Have you seen Mobile Suite Gundam 00 first season? At one of the arc, the Celestial Being's brought upon an armed intervention to the war-torn sri-lanka (Ceylon) between the goverment's and Tamil rebels, and ending the war. Also the lead character's nationality was Kurgistan, which I believe are loosely based on actual geo-cultural region called Kurdistan.

Maybe Jungle Boy, it's about a child soldier in Cambodia. Not the most modern, but at least it's post WWII.

00 was very cool (let´s forget the movie) but these are metaphors. That does not help because like this you can do anything and still "pussy out" if you want to.
The first FMA anime had Iraq symbolism too an where did that point then go ? Nowhere.
Mitsurin Shounen is exactly what i am searching for. (9/10) read it you all.
Read this one if you like such important stories: http://amazon.com/Unknown-Soldier-Vol-Haunted-House/dp/1401 223117
The new Nihon Chinbotsu uses 9/11 as reference points but background material is not quite enough for me. Did i ask a hard question ? I am struggling and that should not be.

This search request was in the Billy Bat section but now it is not and the question stands.
Can you help?

I generally try to avoid manga that depict modern terrorism, because they usually leave out a lot of information and just basically generalize it for manga purposes. However, there are a few decent manga that contain modern warfare in realistic settings.

Jormungand - About a child soldier caught up in west Asian conflicts. There's also a lot of war profiteering going on among the arms dealer characters.

Pineapple Army - About an awesome soldier that travels around teaching soldiers and defeating terrorists.

Bloody Monday - about terrorist attacks. Mostly takes place in Japan, but the later chapters seem to raise the stakes. Not my favorite due to it's very shounen-esque nature despite the topic, but it kinda fits your description.

Honestly, I think you're more likely to find manga like Until Death Do Us Part human trafficking and the like or fictional terrorism/terrorists like Akumetsu or Destroy and Revolution rather than something that tackles Al-qaeda and other related groups.

If you're still interested I suggest you check out the tags Terrorist Attack and Terrorist/s

First of all thank you. I know and read all the series you mentioned and looking at the terrorist tag versions won´t help me as half are by me. (Cough i am Mr.Seinen after all.)
None quite fit my criteria but Destroy and Revolution (9/10) is such a bold manga that i even bothered to review it. I did the same for his utterly unrelated Suicide Island (9,5/10) where i can´t even understand how the publisher approved all of his machination.
That manga is WAY more daring and intellectual that what many of its readers will credit it for, the author is a beast in general and even helps with Berserk in regards to plot assistance.

Shi ga Futari o Wakatsu Made (9/10) further deserves a special mention (and soon a review by me) as it barely feels like a manga and the current arc very interesting in regards to in what it has to say about the world. The character and gender diversity is nearly unraveled too and Hiroshi is doing some borderline revolutionary stuff in what many would only consider a brainless popcorn action series. All of these need to be honored with Madhouse adaptations and pockets full of awards.

I will now bring Eagle (6/10) from 1997 into the mix. I redid the page from the ground up first of all and you can look into my notes why it is a bit interesting from a political perspective but the whole power play narrative doesn’t really work form a level of realism. The political race, the democratic party and frankly most of the political systems presented are very different in real life so maybe watch West Wing and House of Cards (the original UK-version is great too) for that. It´s further a melodrama that pulls punches a lot but it´s interesting to see an american theme form a japanese seinen lenses. The series is lastly about the Vietnam War which only ended only 22 years ago back then so it fits.

The even older borderline-seinen classic Banana Fish (8,5/10) from 1986 further has the Vietnam War as a backdrop.

This request is has proved very hard indeed as i could name you 50+ fitting examples from the worldwide comic market with barely any help from google and i can if someone wants me too but to spell it in manga is nearly impossible it seems.

You could all watch the 8/10 Flag anime i guess (the ending is emotionally manipulative bullshit) but it is fictitious too and i have nothing more as of now.

I gave the aforementioned Mitsurin Shounen (9/10) a mini review and namedropped
Ichiefu - Fukushima Daiichi Genshiryoku Hatsudensho Annaiki + Sousou - 2011.3.11 Bokou ga Itaianchisho ni Natta Hi there which are about a japanese tragedy of course but they desperately need to leave japan in any form as it is just a crime how the whole thing is being swept under the rug.
