Here is my war "master list" as they are at least a 8/10 regardless of what the lead does in the story. Kento Ankokuden Cestvs grom a friend of Miura and Kamui Gaiden are about warriors and not a direct war. Both need a revival! (Hard-R rating for both)

Ad Astra - Scipio to Hannibal Really getting going.
All You Need Is Kill Should have been 3 volumes.
Arslan Senki (ARAKAWA Hiromu) By the LOGH creator + the FMA lady but it takes a bit to pick up.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Promise They of course prevent the war as it is Nick.
Azumi (and Azumi 2) Best chambara (Hard-R rating) + the side manga Oi! Ryouma.
Basara The love triangle as way too overdone.
Berserk King of manga. (Hard-R rating)
Blind Faith Descent Very impressive for the format.
Buddha So not shonen and the war comes later.
Claymore Shonen Berserk.
Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction Post alien cold war civil insanity.
Eden - It's an Endless World! I hate gnosticism and it overreaches. (Hard-R rating)
Five Star Monogatari A classic mecha epic.
Front Mission - Dog Life & Dog Style A 7,5/10 mess but interesting/bleak. (Hard-R rating)
Full Metal Panic! Σ (The anime is better told so start there and switch later.) A 7,5/10 for the whole thing as it went on way too long.
Gantz King of crazy! (Hard-R rating)
Gojikanme no Sensou Very heartfelt.
Gunka no Baltzar A 7,5/10 as it doesn´t quite gel yet.
Gunnm The new one is hardcore (and a Hard-R rating)
Hadashi no Gen A classic but too long.
Hellsing: The Dawn Ending when? (Hard-R rating for the main story)
Historie Perfect historical seinen. Also by him and very tragic Yuki no Touge Tsurugi no Mai.
Husk Eden Titans with more death (+ some sex) and no Titans.
Joou no Hana Pretty promising.
Kaze Hikaru Could use a coherent scanlation and it is a bit long now.
Kenrou Densetsu So not shonen and post war nihilism.
Kidou Senshi Gundam - The Origin Start here and go through the linked series in order.
Koukaku Kidoutai Arise - Nemuranai Me no Otoko Sleepless Eye The best GitS manga.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes Aka: The best anime but the manga is only a 8/10.
Lodess-tou Senki - Haiiro no Majo A 7,5/10 for now as i need to see how far they will go.
Mitsurin Shounen Frankly a documentary.
Ookami no Kuchi: Wolfsmund She worked on Berserk and it shows. (Hard-R rating)
Princess A long running shoujo epic and back from a hiatus.
RideBack It is turns into a dark war manga.
Rurouni Kenshin Don´t forget the new/canon [m]Rurouni Kenshin - Aku no Kioku[/m]
Ryuu - Ron Sorry no scanlation but it is very good HBO level seinen.
Saishuu Heiki Kanojo It does preach but I could especially feel for the other girl here.
Sengoku Youko The mangaka has real talent in all fields.
Seikai no Monshou (YONEMURA Kouichirou) Please reach the later novels!
Senjou no Valkyria Play the first and third game instead (2 is a real mess with quality gameplay).
Shingeki no Kyojin - Before the Fall The main title is also good but this one is better as it has a clear focus and it keeps the darkness going.
Shin Angyo Onshi Korean Berserk.
Terra Formars The new Gantz (or the other JoJo) and it really came together after stumbling through the door.
Vinland Saga Perfect historical seinen too.
I did 2 years of military so i like the theme if it is executed well.
I can post good international war comics if interest is there and i wonder what my eyes overlooked but this went way faster then i tough.
